Community Round-Up: 22/09/12

Gazza's hit the town.

So then, Gazza’s probably very much the worse for wear thanks to Uni starting up the early festivities, and Steven’s saving himself for a spooktacular around Halloween.

All of which means, I’m back… Again!

Nothing new this week but a little tease to say that there are some nice things on their way for you guys and gals to sink your gaming teeth into.

But aside from that, we have the penultimate report from the MotorStorm: Apocalypse TSA Festival, with the final one set to hit the wires this weekend at some point. Tune in to see who wins, who loses, and who likes to make out with gooses.

Sorry…

Finally we have some more games to breath a little life into the Meets!

We do have the regular DiRT Showdown meets on Sunday and Tuesday, whilst MotorStorm and Max Payne both have their usual Monday spots, but there’s new stuff too.

I’ve set up an F1 2012 meet for tomorrow afternoon at 5PM, which should let us get out on track, no doubt all eager to avenge the victories/losses of our favourite drivers and teams from the GP tomorrow.

Wednesday also sees some new cars for GT5, so I figured I’d shift the TGMEM gathering back a couple days. I guess that makes it TGMWNNMEM?

Why the Borderlands 2 banner, you ask? Well, it’s surely the main game that most people will be playing this week, grabbing a few friends for some semi-organised and adhoc co-op play. No need for meets, but if you’re looking for people, do go ahead and set something up. Similarly for LittleBigPlanet Vita. Those co-op bubbles won’t collect themselves!

New PS3 design? Al’s got you covered with a review of the PS3 Super Slim, explaining some of the new quirks it has. Not my cup of tea personally, but I know plenty people like the new look.

We also have a few big new game reviews, as Peter ploughed through a working week of Borderlands 2 and PES 2013 to give you his rather positive thoughts on them both. Gamoc also makes an appearance with a review of Hero Academy (Not so glowing), whilst the closest thing we have to a preview this week is Greg’s look at Mass Effect 3 Weekend Operation: Patriot.

I caught up with some of the guys behind LittleBigPlanet Vita for a few questions just prior to the game’s launch, whilst there’s some rather lively debate about EA’s support of Gaymercon. Heading into our regular opinion pieces Al wonders if The Last Of Us can wash away those end of generation blues and give us a little more excitement before the next wave of consoles hit, and Peter questions why he keeps playing some games when they give him such aggravation?

Over on the more community slanted side of things, Wick’s beastly PC featured in last Sunday’s Chronicle. WeView saw the judgement passed on Dark Souls, but the Al threw us all a total curve ball with a look back at the whole of the PS3′s launch line up. We then have What We Played‘s weekly entry, but rounding us out this week are the final 25 “Top 100 of 2011″ games. It’s been a good long look at how the year in games has turned out so far.

Over in the forums:

As always, I do encourage you do dive in and lend a well structured sentence or two to the debates!

Well that’s a stroke of luck, eh? I go away for one week, and this whole Dante mess gets cleaned up for me! Agent 47 beating him 5-3, so who can I send him to off this time around?

How about Big Boss? Although, in this case, perhaps the hunter becomes the hunted?

Big Boss

Pros

  • Stealthy.
  • Lots of gadgets and gizmos.
  • Not actually a naked snake.

Cons

  • One eye must make depth perception a bit tricky.
  • Least imaginative antagonist name ever.
  • I seriously doubt even he could quite figure out all the plot twists and turns which led to yet another 30 minute piece of exposition about how nuclear weapons are bad, the people in charge are also evil, and some other stuff besides. Still, got to forgive Kojima his preachiness, haven’t we?

Agent 47

Pros

  • A deadeye with any weapon, especially his silverballers.
  • An expert at blending in as he can steal dead enemies’ clothes.
  • If he gets bored, he can visit Tescos and see how much he’s worth at the self service checkout with his barcode tattoo.

Cons

  • Not really the kind of guy you wouldn’t notice with his distinctive bald head.
  • Spends a fortune at the dry cleaners getting the blood out of his suit
  • Also spends another small fortune at the hairdressers and on head wax for that bald head of his.

i’m looking forward to this weekends Motorstorm video, the videos so far offered some exciting racing and entertaining commentary, kudos to all the drivers and commentators..

as for the showdown, i gotta go with Big Boss.
during the Virtuous mission he beat the worlds greatest sniper, possibly by outshooting him, although the other option was just waiting till he died of old age. ^_^

then there was the giant missile launching mecha he had to fight.

some bald guy in a suit can’t really compare can he?

it’s a shame we won’t see the top three games from the top 100 released this year.
i was really looking forward to Tomb Raider.

Signed up for the F1 meet tomorrow. We had a gathering last night with around 7/8 of us and it was great, no connection issues to really speak of…..maybe just Toms connection had a moment? Great fun though ;)
Very unusual for a new release to work from day one online almost flawlessly :O

So, my Dark Souls thread has yet to be mentioned. You have made a power….*gets a cake thrown at him*

The real reason why i didn’t do the round up is that tef caught me in bed with my copy of Dark Souls. Hypocrite as i know for a fact he sleeps with his toeshoes. ;)

Hmm, a legendary soldier vs an assassain. I’m going to vote for Big Boss as 47 has no chances. BB has defeated metal gears and some supernatural enemies as well as killing the most deadly sniper in the world by either waiting it out or outsniping him. And he has his own army. Just don’t mention the Boss near him unless you have a month free.
