The thatgamecompany Collection Isn’t Slated For A European Release

Not journeying far enough.

We’ve been fawning over thatgamecompany’s releases since flOw. Flower was a firm favourite among many staff members and Journey seems to have exceeded all expectations for critical and commercial success. To put it bluntly, we adore thatgamecompany.

So, it’s with a heavy heart that we impart the news of their upcoming collection‘s absence from European shores. The company has just tweeted some more details about the collection, among which, they confirm that it’s not set to get a European release at all.

I’m a little bit annoyed that I won’t be able to see the documentary or hear the creator commentaries but perhaps SCEE will have the sense to get that stuff on the PSN Store quickly for Europe, before the inevitable torrents appear.

It’s coming at the end of August (28th) to North America and it’ll be disc based, although they’re unclear as to whether the soundtracks might be on the disc (to install Mp3s to your PS3′s XMB) or in the form of a code to download them. The disc will cost $29.99 and will be region free, so if anyone does want to import it, that’s an option.

To be honest, considering how U.S. to U.K prices go, it’ll probably work out about the same to import it as to buy it here if you could.

But if it’s anything like the Team Ico collection, all the additional content will be redeemable from the Store, rather than on disk.

This really sucks, I were planning on getting it as I haven’t got flower or journey yet.

Absolutely gutted and it’s rare I say that about anything video-gaming related. I’ll look to import if they don’t reconsider the EU very soon. Son-hoffa-beach! :-(

Oh blast, i don’t go for collectors editions much but this is one i really wanted. I wish they would at least put the fl0w soundtrack on the eu store, that would cheer me up.

I am guessing its more financially viable to just release in the states then? Do they not download as much perhaps (i know a LOT of people that have played flower & journey in Europe, but not so much in America)?

i guess it’s just too much hassle to translate all the text in those games.

    wait a minute. o_O

i know i joke about it, but seriously, is “no plans for europe” actually the default policy for sony?
i’d have thought Thatgamecompany’s games would do better in europe than the us as well.

I think that’s the issue though – I think their games tend to do better in Europe & Japan & so they consider there to be less of a market to sell this to.

Obviously they should check here more often, as i am sure that some were positively dribbling at the premise of all three games & all those add-ons.

As mentioned in the article though, at least its possible to import if you simply must have this.
