Kaskelot

Kaskelot, the flagship of the fleet, is one of the largest remaining wooden ships in commission.
Kaskelot is a 153 foot, three-masted Barque Double Topsail. Her sails make up 9500 square feet of canvas and she has a crew of 18.
  • Built in Svendborg, Denmark in 1948.
  • The flagship of the Square Sail Fleet.
  • Originally commissioned by the Royal Greenland Trading Company to supply the remote East Greenland coastal settlements, and subsequently as a fisheries support vessel in the Faroe Islands.
  • Square Sail purchased her in 1981 and totally re-designed and re-rigged her as the three-masted 19th Century barque that she is today.
  • The name ‘Kaskelot’ is Danish for sperm whale.
  • She is one of the largest remaining wooden ships in commission.
