In many cases, walking to a London 2012 venue is much quicker and easier than you may think. As well as being a healthy, sustainable way to travel, it gives you the chance to see many sights on the way and soak up the atmosphere of being in a Host City.
Or if you’re not keen on walking the whole way to your venue, why not consider getting off the bus or train a stop or two early to avoid busy stations and see what London has to offer?
The London 2012 Active Travel programme aims to encourage more walking and cycling in the run-up to, during and after the Games, and includes a whole host of events and activities. Find out more about the programme
Led walks to venues
Spectators wishing to walk to their venue can book onto free guided walks, available for many of the Games venues. The walks will lead you along approved walking routes without worry of getting lost or arriving late. The guided walks are free of charge but you’ll need to book in advance as places are limited.
Check your venue page to see if there are led walks available for your session.

Walking to the Olympic Park
London 2012 has invested over £10m in making improvements to over 75km of walking and cycling routes across east London and around the Olympic Park. These quiet on and off road routes take in a variety of landscapes offering an enjoyable walking or cycling experience.
As well as providing a fantastic package of walking and cycling routes in the lead up to and during the Games, these routes will offer a lasting legacy for the boroughs through which they pass.
Walking for leisure
The Jubilee Greenway Walk is a 60km walking and cycling route marking Her Majesty the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. It links many of London’s impressive Olympic and Paralympic Games venues and takes in a number if impressive sights as it passes from Buckingham Palace to the Olympic Park.
