Highlights

Brazil have competed in every summer Paralympic Games since 1972 with an all-time medal count of 187. It was not until 1984 that Brazil won their first gold medal when M. FERRAZ won one gold, along with five silver medals, in athletics.  In 2008, Brazil enjoyed their best Games ever winning 47 medals. Swimmer Clodoaldo SILVA became Brazil's most successful Paralympian in history, setting four world records, five Paralympic records, and winning six gold medals and one silver in 2004, having already captured four medals in 2000 in Sydney (three silver, one bronze). He was honoured in 2005 with the Best Male Athlete award by the International Paralympic Committee.
