Our programme is exceptional - Berenyi

Joseph Berenyi believes the future looks bright for Track Cycling in the USA after he helped them clinch bronze in the final event at the Velodrome - the Mixed C1-5 Team Sprint.

China's Liu Xinyang, Ji Xiaofei and Xie Hao won the gold in a world record of 49.454, with Great Britain second in 49.519.

The USA team of Berenyi, Jennifer Schuble and Sam Kavanagh finished third, recording a time of 52.749.

'Our programme is exceptional - it has come a long way,' said Berenyi, who won gold in the men's Individual C3 Pursuit on Day 2. 'We have a hopeful future.'

Reflecting on their world record-breaking performance in the final, China's Liu said: 'At training we broke the world record, so we tried our best during the race.

'We didn't co-operate very well in the qualifier, so before the final we talked about co-operation and tried to do better.'

When all was said and done in the Track Cycling at London 2012, Great Britain were top of the medal table with five gold, seven silver and three bronze.

Britain's 15 medals put the team well above China, in second place with nine, and third-placed Australia's eight.
