Legacy Trust UK is an independent charity that is creating a lasting cultural and sporting legacy from the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games through 16 programmes with more than 100 arts, sports and education projects currently taking place across the UK.

Legacy Trust UK was set up in 2007 to support communities and organisations across the UK to create projects that celebrate London 2012 in a way that is relevant to them. To ensure appropriate distribution of its £40million endowment, the Trust’s allocations were based on a baseline amount per nation or region and an additional allocation weighted according to population and deprivation indices.

The grants are managed and distributed by regional bodies who understand what will work in their regions, and where investment is needed. The Trust also funds four national programmes which  allow people from across the UK to come together to be a part of the cultural celebrations of London 2012.

Since 2008, Legacy Trust UK’s projects have gone from strength to strength, and have so far reached an audience of 4.5 million, directly engaged more than 500,000 children and young people, worked with over 15,000 volunteers and created an economic impact of £35million.

The Trust is a Principal Funder of the Cultural Olympiad and London 2012 Festival. All of the Trust’s cultural projects are part of the Cultural Olympiad and many – such as Big Dance (London), Tate Movie (national) and Lakes Alive (North West England) – are also part of the London 2012 Festival.

A recent film showcasing many of the Trust’s projects can be seen here.
