Freedom of information

The Freedom of Information Act 2000 (“the Act”) allows any person to make a request for access to information held by public authorities, except where special exemptions apply.

Freedom of information ("FOI") status of the London 2012 Organising Committee

The London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games Limited (“LOCOG”) is a private company and is not subject to the Freedom of Information Act 2000. However, you can send a general enquiry which is not an FOI request to LOCOG and/or the ODA.

FOI status of the Olympic Delivery Authority

The Olympic Delivery Authority (“ODA”) is a public authority listed under the Act and is committed to its aim of fostering a culture of openness, transparency and accountability. The ODA is also committed to complying with its obligations under the Act.

Under the Act, the ODA is required to give access to information it holds, subject to certain exemptions and fee thresholds. The Act also requires the ODA to adopt and maintain a 'publication scheme', which will provide you with an easier way of getting information without having to make a request under the Act . The scheme lists information that is available to the public and where it can be obtained.

The Act also gives you the right to request information that is not listed in the ODA’s publication scheme. This right of access to information is subject to certain exemptions, for example the protection of commercial interests, confidentiality and personal data.

For guidance on how to use your right of access to information and how your right may be limited by exemptions, please consult the guidance notes published by the Information Commissioner and the Ministry of Justice at the web links given below.

The Olympic Delivery Authority’s publication scheme
The ODA has developed a publication scheme, approved by the Information Commissioner, which lists the classes of information made available by the ODA on request, and how to request information in the relevant categories.

How to submit a request under the Act ("FOI request") to the ODA
If you wish to make a request for information which is not listed in our publication scheme, there are two ways to submit an FOI request to the ODA.

You can email an FOI request to the ODA.

Alternatively, you can write to:
Freedom of Information Officer
Olympic Delivery Authority
One Churchill Place
Canary Wharf
London E14 5LN

Your request must state your name and an address for correspondence, and must describe the information you want. The Act allows the ODA a period of 20 working days to respond to a request for information.

In the event that the ODA requires longer than 20 days, you will be informed in writing as soon as this becomes clear and of the reasons why an extension of time is required.

Making a complaint

If you are dissatisfied with the ODA's response, you can ask that the matter be reviewed internally by the ODA by sending a request to the ODA's Freedom of Information Officer at the address above, stating the grounds for your complaint. A member of senior management will conduct the review and you will be notified of the outcome within 20 working days.

If you remain dissatisfied, you can appeal to the Information Commissioner for a decision on the handling of your request. The Information Commissioner is an independent statutory body that polices the operation of the Act.

Generally, the Information Commissioner will not consider complaints until the internal review procedure of a public authority has been exhausted. The Commissioner can be contacted at:

FOI Compliance Team (Complaints)
The Information Commissioner
Wycliffe House
Water Lane
Wilmslow
Cheshire SK9 5AF
Tel: 01625 545700
Fax: 01625 524510

If you are not satisfied with the decision of the Commissioner you may appeal to the Information Tribunal.
