The Olympic and Paralympic Games are the biggest sporting events on the planet – the equivalent of hosting 46 world championships in a matter of weeks. With millions of people coming to the UK, it’s going to be a busy summer.

In this section you’ll find advice on travelling to events, accessibility and ticket information, plus a summary of London 2012 venues.

In the meantime, here are some useful tips to get you started:

  • Plan and book your travel to the Games in advance, then check it before you set off for unexpected changes or disruptions
  • Remember your tickets! Everyone needs a ticket for entry
  • Make sure you arrive at your venue early – see the venues summary for more information
  • You’ll need to go through airport-style security screening when you arrive. It will be busy, so expect to wait
  • You can bring one small backpack or a handbag – unless you’re going to a Football event, when you should avoid bringing a bag if possible
  • There are some things you can’t bring into venues, including water and other liquids in volumes greater than 100ml – check the London 2012 website for the full list before you leave home
  • Inside venues, you can only pay by Visa (debit, credit or prepaid) or cash (pounds sterling)
Check the weather forecast and come prepared – a lot of venues have little or no shelter!
