Sony publishes Xperia S binaries to assist Android developers with AOSP 'experiment'

Gallery Photo: Sony Xperia S unboxing and hands-on

When Google's Jean-Baptiste Queru revealed an "experiment" that would bring Sony's flagship Xperia S into the Android Open Source Project, Sony immediately announced its support for the initiative and pledged to help wherever possible. Today marks the first step in that process, as Sony has made the device's binaries — resources necessary to bring a stable, native Android experience to the X...

Mid-range LG Optimus L7 coming to US Cellular as the 'Splendor'

LG Splendor

The LG Splendor, a variant of the LG Optimus L7, is on its way to US Cellular according to documents from LG's website that were quickly spotted by Smartphenom before they were taken down. The product brochure reveals similar specs to the international Optimus L7 — a 4.3-inch 800 x 480 display, Android 4.0, and a 5-megapixel camera with 720p video recording.

The most important difference between the Splendor and the international model is the switch to a 1GHz Snapdragon S2-class processor, which may improve the phone's performance slightly over what we saw in our review of the Optimus L7. Another change is a bit less on-board storage — 2GB instead of 4GB — but since the phone has microSD card support, it's mostly a non-issue. The product brochure didn't contain any information on pricing or availability, but the device's...

Perhaps a little change is for the best

Optimus L9 hands-on: LG takes L-Style to 4.7 inches

Gallery Photo:

We've just had the chance to see LG's largest L-Style phone to-date: the 4.7-inch Optimus L9. Just like the rest of the L-Style series of devices, the L9 skips high-end internals and focuses on a look that won't hurt your — ahem — style. The phone has a still-unspecified 1GHz dual-core processor, as well as 1GB of RAM and Android 4.0. That 4.7-inch screen is only graced by a qHD (960 x 540) resolution, and that looks to be the ultimate detractor from this device — a resolution like that...

Mystery HTC Android phone surfaces, is it bound for Verizon?

htc 5-inch mystery device

We've just come across a few images of an HTC Android device that looks like it could be a new hero phone for the manufacturer. Unfortunately, other than a particularly persistent rumor appearing to match up with these images, we don't have a lot to go on. The red accents on the metal rails on the side are a Verizon-favorite for its HTC line of devices. There's a Beats Audio logo too, plus a large sticker looks very much like what HTC has done...

CNET: Amazon prepping two 7-inch Kindle Fire models for next week's event

Kindle Fire leak

Yesterday, we caught a few glimpses at what is expected to be the new Kindle Fire, and today CNET is reporting that Amazon actually has two Kindle Fire tablets in the works. We've heard this before — in fact it's been rumored for months that Amazon is planning to launch more than one Kindle Fire — but CNET claims that both of the new devices will in fact be the same size. Earlier, it was thought that Amazon would release at least a 10-inch...
