Steve, who is also St David’s Hospice’s Income Generation Manager,  said the competition was a unique opportunity for a local talent.

Steve, who is a former TV and radio producer working on BBC comedy shows such as Have I Got News For You and  Never Mind The Buzzcocks, will be casting his eye over the entries.

The winner will be chosen by a panel of judges form the Daily Post and St David’s Hospice
He said: “Stand-up comedy is one of the hardest – but most sought after – roles in the entertainment business and opportunities like this don’t come along every day.

“I think it’s because it’s ‘sink or swim’ in the glare of one spotlight, with only a microphone for company.

“This is a great opportunity for new and budding stand-ups to put themselves in front of a huge crowd alongside other, more experienced performers.

“I’m really looking forward to seeing what the next generation of stand-up comics look like!”
He added: “ The internet give us a better opportunity than ever to spread the net wide on this competition.

“I have a real soft spot for musical comedy – and I think the time is right for funny songs to make a come back!”

Steve’s main tip was: “It’s all about having confidence in your material. If you really believe it’s funny you stand a much better chance of convincing a room full of strangers.”

St David’s Hospice helps 300 people a year, which costs £1.6m to run a year – 75% of which is raised by supporters. The hospice offers free care to people from Conwy, Anglesey and Gwynedd who have cancer and terminal illness.
