Angry Lovebirds

Did you catch Dorian Speed’s excellent post on coping with conflict in marriage?

She offers 7 great tips for dealing with conflict in marriage, as well as a link to another post with 10 more ideas.

Two of the points she makes caught my attention, particularly her observation that conflict isn’t necessarily a bad thing.

Obviously perpetual bitter bickering between a husband and wife is a sign something... READ MORE

Mad after Mass?

What do you do when your find yourself angry at Church?

I’d like to start this column by asking you to pray for me. On my “to do” list for this week is attending the sacrament of reconciliation. So before you recommend that as a remedy for my poor attitude, know that I agree with you and that I’m working on it…

Without going into any of the details of what happened, I’d like to share with you that I left church on Saturday night after our vigil Mass feeling... READ MORE

Be Angry & Sin Not

http://01varvara.wordpress.com/2009/01/12/boris-ooshansky-jesus-and-the-money-changers-2006/

You’ve probably laughed as I have at this wise-crack:

“When asking WWJD, always remember that getting mad and knocking over the tables is a valid answer.”

I like that quip, but it’s a dubious guide for human behavior.

It seems to me our society has an anger problem, and one that works in opposing directions.

On the one hand, we seem to be increasingly thin-skinned about matters of little import.... READ MORE

‘Zeal for Thy House Will Consume Me’

from today's Gospel

And making a whip of cords, he drove them all, with the sheep and oxen, out of the temple; and he poured out the coins of the money-changers and overturned their tables.
—John 2:15

Give us zeal, O lord. Give us righteous anger. Give us moral courage.

More Anger Management

new request from Daria Sockey

A couple of weeks ago, many of you responded when I asked for your input about parental anger management for a Faith and Family article senior writer Daria Sockey is working on. Now here’s an update from Daria with an additional request:

Thanks so much to moms who shared their ideas, experiences, and attempts to overcome those daily temptations to yell at their kids. I will be contacting some of you... READ MORE

Anger Management

Are you a yelling mom?

One of the many good things subscribers to Faith and Family Magazine get in each issue is practical support in parenting.

We cover everything from keeping your kids safe online to bringing toddlers to Mass, balancing numerous parental responsibilities, and the importance of spending one-on-one time with your kids.

Right now, senior writer Daria Sockey is working on an article about how moms can better control their tempers, even when life gets stressful and their kids push all the right buttons.

Do you have anger management wisdom to share from a mom’s point of view? Have you struggled with a “yelling problem” and learned to overcome it? If you have a related story or experience to share, we would love to hear from you.

Please email me and I will pass your information along to Daria. She will follow up with any responses she can use. Thanks so much!
