Why I’m swearing off using the word “globularlike.”

Dealing with fear

Today’s post has a few really basic ideas about how to turn down the heat on that constant simmering panic we can feel when the world just seems so awful.  But it doesn’t really address what many adults deal with as their worst fear:  fear for the safety and well-being of people we love.  I hope I can get to that in a future post!

A couple of things that didn’t make it into today’s post about discerning vocations:
One is that God doesn’t just call you, one time, in passing, to do something.  When something is your vocation, you get called and called and called to do it, and it will be hard to ignore the call.
Two is that you’re not going to be called to do something you hate.  You may sometimes be frightened or uncomfortable with the idea, but there will always be something that appeals to you in your vocation; and once you make the choice to answer that call, you will feel good.

And three is that, a single vocation can comprise a whole range of activities.  Often times, when we look back over the last decade or so, we’ll realize that we have been following our vocations in one form or another.

Theology on Tap!

On Tuesday, September 25th at 9:00, I’ll be at Murphy’s in Hanover, NH, for a widdle Theology on Tap.  I will be chatting about forgiveness — what it is, what it ain’t, how to get started, and maybe a little about what’s holding you back.  I will not be yelling at anyone.  Probably my husband and baby Benny will be there, if you want to buy them a beer.  I would love to meet anyone who’s going to be in the area!

Oh, and I just got the latest issue of Catholic Digest, wherin you can find “34 Pro-Life Family Activities,” invented by me (and we even actually do some of them at our house).

Definitely not Hannah Arendt.

Kids and Politics

In which I give you permission to get a little ranty at your kids, all in the name of good parenting and good citizenship.

Oh yeah?

And just in case you feel picked upon by this post, let me tell you that my words bit me in the butt probably 53 separate times this morning.
