It may only be two days into IFA but a clear pattern is emerging within the computing sector. The flexibility of Windows 8 as both a tablet and laptop OS has meant that OEMs are up for offering devices that bring to the table the functionality of a laptop combined with the ease of use of a tablet.

The latest is the Toshiba U920T and when it comes to build quality, it's the best we have seen so far.

Where Sony decided on a hinge mechanism for its tablet-cum-laptop, the Sony Vaio Duo 11, Toshiba has gone all industrial in its design. It has a runner on the back that is smooth to use, offering a slick transition between tablet and laptop.

The lack of a hinge does mean that the device feels a whole lost sturdier, even if it is a little stiff when you do transform it. And it means there's more real estate for the keyboard too, which is always a good thing.

The screen used on the U920T has 5-point touch capabilities, is made from Gorilla Glass, and is 12.5 inches (1,366 x 768 pixels) in size. We tried to look at it from every which way and the viewing angles were decent. We're putting this down to the screen offering 300 NIT, which always gave the colour that bit more of a ping.

When it is in tablet mode, the U920T does feel quite large in the hand, probably due to us only usually man-handling 10-inch tablets, but it is at least comfortable at 1.45kg. We can't see anyone using it in this way for a prolonged time, though. But, then again, IFA has turned this writer into a shell of his former self, so its heaviness could well be put down to our weakness.

Given the size of the screen, you will be pleased to know that when you do decide to stop showing off the tablet capabilities of the device, the keyboard situated underneath is full-size.

Given the tablet capabilities, Toshiba has seen fit to put a front and rear camera on to the U920T, as well as a decent amount of connectivity.

There's two USBs, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, HDMI and an SD card reader. There's also a built-in accelerometer, stereo speakers, 4GB Ram, 128GB of SSD storage and the latest (third gen) Intel Core I chips.

Microsoft's fingerprint's are all over IFA 2012, and the U920T is yet again another decent device that shows off the capabilities of the new OS.

We're betting Toshiba won't be the last to show off a hybrid slider this year, but it's in with a good chance of showing off one of the best.
