LAMPARD: PERFECT START

Frank Lampard felt two early goals meant we were always going to win up at Wigan on Sunday.

Branislav Ivanovic had already put us in front by the time Lampard fired home a seventh-minute penalty, and although Wigan pressed for a way back into the game, could never find a breakthrough meaning we get off to the perfect start in the 2012/13 Barclays Premier League.

'It was a good result, this is a tough place to come and play but the way we came and played in the first 15 minutes decided the game,' Lampard said. 'After that it was pretty close but we had that advantage.

'You always want to get a win and coming here was a very tough game but we started very well. After that it was very even but we always had that lead.

'We haven't had the best of pre-seasons for a lot of reasons and the results haven't been good, with players coming back from the Euros, but today we couldn't have asked for a better start.'

Like his manager before him, Lampard praised the immediate impact of Eden Hazard, who created both goals on a sizzling debut.

'Hazard showed glimpses of that in pre-season for us and it's great to have a player who can unlock a door,' was Lampard's verdict. 'It was a great turn for the first and skill in the box for the second, which changes games.

'It's not easy at a young age to come into the Premier League no matter how good a player you are. It's something the Chelsea fans are crying out to see and it's good to play with him.'
