A Superior Court judge in Georgia granted Usher primary physical custody of his two sons on Friday, bringing to a close an extended legal dispute with the singer's ex-wife, the Associated Press reports.
Usher and his ex-wife, Tameka Foster Raymond, will share legal custody of 4-year-old Usher Raymond V and 3-year-old Naviyd Ely Raymond, though visitation plans have not yet been decided. Usher's custody will begin on September 1st.
The couple were married in 2007 and divorced in 2009 after separating the year before. Usher said at the time that the marriage was "irretrievably broken" and that they had "no reasonable hope of reconciliation." Their divorce proceedings turned ugly in May as Raymond's attorney accused Usher of cheating and neglecting his children. Usher testified that his ex-wife had hit him, but said that he didn't press charges because he "didn't want the boys to know that their father put their mother in jail."
In spite of the bitterness of the trial, Usher and Raymond briefly made peace this summer when Foster's 11-year-old son Kile Glover was killed in a jet-ski accident.
