Summer at St Mark – We have listed below the contributions for the past five weeks and, as you can see, they are steadily declining. This is of great concern, because without the continued support of our parishioners, St. Mark Parish would not be able to function.

Remember your church in your will:
Many members and friends have been blessed
and want to give generously to the Lord, but
have concerns about health, outliving their
resources, etc. One good way to give back
to God while balancing our earthbound
concerns is to remember the church in your
will. For example, some faithful folks tithe
10% (or more) of their estate to the church.
After our worldly cares are over, what a
wonderful legacy to our faith!

Membership info update – Have you changed your phone number? Have you moved or are you preparing to move soon? Do you have children no longer living at home? Have a new e-mail address? Have you received our recent emails?

Parish Outreach – There is nothing worse than an empty belly. There is nothing more senseless in this land of plenty than hunger. Please help our parish provide for those less fortunate. The list is simple. The need is great. Please help by bringing a food donation next Sunday. Please bring your can goods to the container in the church hall.

We are looking for individual to help pull weeds and small planting of flowers (green thumbs nor required), cleaning and straightening up the Hall kitchen, washing the kitchen towels (Thank you – Shake Minasian), cleaning the outside cooking area to name a few items.

One of the reasons for asking for volunteers is that we ended our Fiscal Year on June 30 and we had a large deficit for the year. The main reason for this deficit was the loss of income from the Gymboree rent.

Summer at St Mark – As the “lazy, hazy days of summer” approach, several noticeable things change in life at St Mark. For one, attendance at Sunday Badarak diminishes as parishioners take well-deserved vacation time away.

This summer, plan to attend church here or as you travel. When you travel, bring back a bulletin and put it on the bulletin board. Who knows, maybe we will have a prize for the bulletin brought in from the furthest distance this summer.

Sunday Bulletin May 27, 2012

May 28th, 2012 by stmarks Under Sunday Bulletin English

May 27, 2012

Today is the feast of Pentecost. Our readings are Acts 2:1-21 and John 14:25-31.

Pentecost (Hogegaloust) is celebrated fifty days after Easter. Jesus had commanded the apostles to, “Go therefore to all nations and make them my disciples,” (Matthew 28:19). Christ recognized the difficulty of this great responsibility and had advised them not to begin their teaching mission until after the “Descent of the Holy Spirit.” In the Acts of the Apostles, we read that on the day of Pentecost the apostles had gathered in one place, and that suddenly a strong wind seemed to fill the house in which they were assembled. “And there appeared to them flames like tongues of fire distributed among them and coming to rest on each one. They were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to talk in other tongues, as the Spirit gave them power of utterance,” (Acts 2:2-4). Many of the people in Jerusalem were from foreign lands. They marveled at the fact that each one of them could understand the Apostles’ words in his own language. The first gift of the Holy Spirit given to the Apostles was the courage to preach the Word of God to all Nations.

During the Badarak this morning, please pray for those who have fallen in the defense of our country.

The use of Church envelopes – The weekly envelopes help keep in mind our duty to regularly contribute to the Church’s mission and to share a percentage of our God-given talents and blessings through charitable organizations such as the Church. We are called to be good stewards of all God entrusts to us, especially our time, talent and treasure. By making a regular, weekly commitment to the Parish, one that is consistent with all other weekly expenses for necessities, luxuries and the like, Catholics give witness to their faith and to the place God and His Church hold among all their other endeavors, plans and dreams.
When you place your offertory collection into the collection basket, please be sure to use the offertory envelopes sent to your home via postal mail, since we cannot assure proper credit for your weekly contributions if you are putting loose cash into the collection. Please prayerfully remember that your support is essential to help keep our faith community alive. If you are, absent for any reason on a particular Sunday, please mail your contribution to St. Mark Church (400 Haverford Rd, Wynnewood PA 19096) If you are not receiving envelopes and would like to, please contact the Parish Office, and we will see to it that you receive them.
