Zynga approached Polytron to port Fez

Fez creator Phil Fish has revealed that beleaguered social gaming giant Zynga offered to port the indie platformer to mobile.

"Zynga approached us to port Fez to mobile," a tweet on Polytron's Twitter page reads. "We politely refused. So, look forward to Zynga's Fex any day now, I guess!"

It's not revealed when the offer was tabled, but it's clear that Zynga is scouting beyond its usual free-to-play territory and into more traditional genres.

The company has already showed its interest in pure arcade games with the recently released Ruby Blast, but it's difficult not to interpret such a release as a lifeboat launch given the company's plummeting stock price.

It's also difficult to see how a game like Fez could be effectively monetised through a free-to-play model, suggesting that Zynga may also be looking to new business models in order to secure its future.

Either way, it's a surprising revelation. When asked if the claim was genuine, Polyton replied: "It actually happened."
