Is Prometheus a reboot? I will look into it when I care enough. Anyway, they need to reboot Revenge of the Nerds - maybe call the new one Revenge of the Jocks or something.

Jason didn't get his mask offscreen between sequels - he got it partway through the third movie when he took it from a guy he just killed. It was quite useful because it allowed him to catch his next victim off-guard when she thought he was her (now-dead) acquaintance.

i masy be a dumb@ss for asking this, but would the (2004) dawn of the dead be a reboot?, or just a remake? because that had some great moments

Marc96: Good question. I consider a reboot to be a relaunch of a franchise that lost its way and a remake to be a standalone movie. I remember a Dennis Hopper film but don't know if it was by the same people behind the 2004 movie. If it is a "sequel" then it will be a reboot. I'm too lazy to search for the details so hopefully someone will do it for us. Anyone?

Romero's Land of the Dead (With Dennis Hopper) was a sequel, Snyder's Dawn of the Dead was a reboot. A very good reboot at that, odd that it didn't make the list.

No mention of Dawn of the Dead? Pfftt, one of the best re-makes/re-boots ever made.

Surely some of these are remakes not a reboots? A remake is a stand-alone modern day version of the original, whereas a reboot suggests there is a franchise that needs a jumpstart . I could be wrong. Anyway, Goldeneye should be in this list. Martin Campbell rebooted the Bond series TWICE. Shame he couldn't work his magic on The Green Lantern.

Surely the top 10 should ALL just be Batman and Casino Royale? Almost every one of the moments from those two films but up here are a massive cut above the rest... Sure it wouldn't be a very balanced list, but it would be an honest one :D

I swear a "reboot" was "pressing the reset button on a SERIES", rather than "pressing the reset button on a standalone film". Otherwise, "Clash" '10 is a reMAKE.

Did you just do this article so you could praise Batman again?

Agreed MikeyRix, that's exactly how I see it. Just for the record TF is now the only film source available anywhere where Catwoman is part of a "best of" list.

@ChrisWootton: Yes, I noticed Catwoman there too. I thought it was just a side effect of my rampant substance abuse and dismissed it. But you are correct, Catwoman shouldn't be on any list. Even if it's to give the Best Grip his due.

Aren't most of these prequels - not reboots? Apes is definitely a prequel - as is Star Trek, Casino Royale, X-men First Class - all simply telling the stories of the characters when they were younger - therefore a prequel?! Hulk and Batman are fine because they have no link with previous versions, but the others are dubious. Agree or disagree?

Ha.. No one has ever put a scene from Catwomen in a 'best of' list... Tis true, I can sense the world starting to disintegrate as we speak... Is that how you got your name CaptainCrazy? The rampart substance abuse?

Why are these always top 50 lists? Inevitably you're forced to cram odd choices onto a top 50 list. Catwoman? Burton's Planet of the Apes? Half the list coming from Batman Begins, Casino Royal, and Spiderman? Why not simply make a shorter list which actually is a series of great moments?

@BobbyTwoTimes Most of the movies you listed are what I like to call "Quasi-reboots". Star Trek, First Class and Apes are this because they pretty much reboot a dead franchise but also keep some continuity with the originals. Royale is a reboot though because it has restarted the franchise with a new cast and style. But you could say it is a Quasi-Reboot because of Judie Dench as M.

X-men 3 made 459m worldwide, the most of any X-men film so I wouldn't call it a dead franchise.

The reason they didn't make X-MEN 4 was down to the fact that most of the actors involved were tied down to a 3 film contract. In March 2011, Shuler Donner ( a FOX bigwig) revealed that the film was in "active development at Fox," saying, "We took the treatment to Fox and they love it... And X4 leads into X5". Although I haven't heard anything since then, they seem to be concentrating on First Class. May be a bit confusing if there were 3 X-Men franchise's out at the same time, what with The Wolverine on the horizon.

What about 21 Jump Street?? The moment when their Captain tells them to "report to 38 Jump St, wait that's not right..." is much more worthy than mentioning Catwoman, which as far as I know isn't actually rebooting anything

"Jason Voorhees loses his cloth mask during a fight in the 2009 version of Friday The 13th, so he searches for a replacement and finds a hockey mask. Why It's Great: One of the most satisfying call-backs in a reboot, since Jason first acquired his iconic headgear off-screen between Parts 2 & 3 of the original series." Actually, no. Jason inherited the hockey mask smack dab in the middle of Part 3, when he cut Shelly's throat and took it from him (done offscreen). We first see him with it when he walks out to the lake and shoots Vera in the eye with a spear gun. At the beginning of 3 he was walking around with nothing covering his face.

Just finished the list. Might want to re-title it to "50 Scenes We Love To Spank It Too Each Week Because We Are So In Love With Batman, Spiderman, Superman, James Bond, The X-Men, Star Trek, and Planet of The Apes." You do realize there were other reboots, right? Jeez....
