Acer remains committed to developing Windows RT devices, despite CEO's comments

Microsoft Surface

In a comment to Computerworld, an Acer spokeswoman confirmed that Windows RT devices remain on the company's product roadmap, despite Acer CEO JT Wang's turbulent stance on Microsoft's upcoming Surface tablet. Last week Wang issued a stern warning, claiming that Microsoft's foray into the tablet space would cause brands to "take a negative reaction." Only days later Wang reiterated that...

New parts for Nokia's Windows Phone 8 devices make their online debut

Nokia prototypes

New evidence of Nokia's upcoming Windows Phone 8 devices surfaced yesterday following the discovery of a bright yellow Lumia "Phi" prototype last week, and now yet another pre-production bezel has appeared. A rectangular bezel similar to the one used in the Phi was uncovered in a forum thread on WPXAP, but there are a few notable differences between the two. Among other small changes, the capacitive button area on the lower portion of the digitizer has been elongated, which could be due to a reduction in display size from 4.3 inches to 4.0. Nokia is rumored to be releasing two phones on the 5th of next month, so we won't be terribly surprised if variants of these parts make an official debut sooner rather than later.

Thomas 90 Seconds

One that's capable of high-quality visuals but loads more gradually, less choppy. A GIF you can jump around in. And it has a name that isn't hotly debated. Now, you may be worried about this Brave New World of "video" — that's what we call it, which is some foreign term for "GIF with enhancements." Thomas Houston has taught us so much.

Microsoft to begin banning all apps with 'metro' in the title from the Windows Store? (update)

MetroTwit for Windows 8

Microsoft is stepping things up in its plan to rid itself of the Metro branding, as the company's app naming guide for developers has been updated with a clause that bans the term from app titles. Beneath a section called "Don't use names trademarked by others" is a note that reads: "Make sure your app name doesn't include the word metro. Apps with a name that includes the word metro will fail certification and won't be listed in the Windows...

We've been waiting to find out when Nokia would unveil its first lineup of Windows Phone 8 devices, and it looks like we'll be getting all the details on September 5th at 9:30AM in New York City. We just received an invite (pictured above) to Nokia and Microsoft's joint press event, and it's pretty obvious from the image and multiple live tile sizes that we'll be hearing about Windows Phone 8. There's no telling what exactly we'll see (perhaps...
