World Bank unveils carbon incentive plan in Philippines

The World Bank said on Monday it plans to buy carbon credits from pig farms in the Philippines, helping farmers generate extra income by setting up environment friendly waste treatment facilities.

Under the program it will finance the installation of such waste treatment systems that will capture methane gas from pig manure which could be used to generate electricity, thereby reducing dependence on fossil fuels.

The World Bank's Carbon Finance Unit will buy carbon credits from farms that instal such systems, helping farmers secure an additional source of income, it said in a statement.

"This is the first programme of activities from the Philippines to be registered and it is the first... in the animal waste sector in Southeast Asia, a region home to a significant number of the world's pigs," World Bank carbon finance specialist Nick Bowden was quoted as saying.

About 100,000 tonnes of carbon credits could be earned each year through the program, the statement said, without providing details on what price it would pay for credits.

The project, supported by the World Bank and implemented by the state-run Land Bank, will be carried out under the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change that includes a programme for extracting methane, a potent greenhouse gas, from pig farms.

Another derivative market set up to make the rich richer. If you think for one minute that this is to help the Philippine people you are sadly mistaken. Enslavement through debt + IMF, Federal Reserve, UN ...ect.

Who in the hell has money in this "WORLD BANK"... I bet MOST of it comes from the US - i.e. YOU AND ME - the TAXPAYERS! The US NEEDS TO PULL OUT of the World Bank and STOP TRANSFERRING our money to other countries!
      • Kris 14 hrs ago
Billiam--that's what they make you think. The US makes a lot of money by doling out aids and loans. Question is, does it go the pockets of the American people?
      • billiam 15 hrs ago
Kris, everything I've ever seen on the funding says the U.S. is one of largest contributors and doesn't get anything back in return.
      • Kris 1 day 14 hrs ago
Last I heard, other countries donated to the WB.

And before you wish that all aid money gets pulled out, you should consider how much money the US makes just by giving "AID".

It goes like this: I give you aid money, but you must do x and x for me. You will employ American consultants, with their salaries and above average living expenses taken out of the aid fund. You will write laws that is favorable to the US making money in your country, because we gave you money. You will tell us where your natural resources are, and give us first dibs in buying them for cheap, because we give you aid money.

The same stipulations go with borrowing money from the WB and IMF. Except they charge ridiculous interest rates.

Believe me, the rest of us poor people always think twice about taking aid money, or a mega loan for a project. But your country would lose out on some profits, so they keep telling us that we should take the money, or risk getting sanctioned.

And you thought it was all for altruistic reasons.

The World Bank is part of the World problem as is the U.N.. Everyone needs to read the documents published by the U.N. and try to understand that the only agenda they are pushing is for total control of every human being that is not a chosen one.

Do you know what the World Bank does? Seriously. No, really. Seriously. Can you tell me what the World Bank does? It's ok to confess that you don't know what they do.

If Obama gets a 2nd term, carbon trading is his #1 agenda. another way to redistribute middle class money to wall street bankers. electricity rates and gasoline will go up to pay for the credits these companys will have to buy to stay in business. It will bleed over into manufacturing and food as everyone passes the cost to the consumer. It will not make the climate change, only our pocket book. He pushed this his first term but had to back off because all his ducks in congress were not in a row. they were still smarting from the backlash of shoving obamacare down our throat.

The USA is the primary funding for IMF, UN, World Bank as well as many other international organizations which take our money and use it to pay off every anti-American cause group they can find. Anyone who dares to question why we pay them is called a racist, isolationist, greedy and anti (fill in the blank). This spending is supported by both the GOP and Dems. as an example of true bipartiship.

The World Bank could finance installation of waste treatment systems Without involvement of carbon credits. This is a backdoor scheme for the implementation of carbon trading for tthe Banksters and politicians.
    • Stephen Higginbottom  •  1 day 18 hrs ago
I am currently living in the philippines and this will end up the same way all other World bank investments in this country have. As pocket change for the ruling class of politicians. A Supreme Court chief justice was prosecuted this year for lining his pockets with over 13 million dollors and billions of peso's. most of the money came from the IMF. The IMF comes into a country and hands huge sums of money to the government but does not monitor how it is spent. Most of that money came from US tax payors
