Do you want a glimpse into the near future? LG is on the verge of launching some very powerful new smartphones and someone has posted the videos to prove it.

This video features an Android that LG is currently calling the "Optimus 2X". And it's the first phone we've seen in motion pictures running a dual-core processor. To test its need for speed, this lucky videographer pitted the 2X (bottom) against this generation's fastest Android, the Samsung Galaxy S, in a benchmark to the death. The results are, let's say, pretty conclusive.

And if you need any further evidence that a smartphone or tablet could soon be your next video game console, check out another video by the same poster showing him playing a game on his flat panel TV via the 2X's HDMI out port. Chipmakers Qualcomm and Nvidia are boasting graphic processing on the next wave of dual-core chips to be as powerful as Sony's Playstation 3.

For all those immediately assuming very poor battery life I would suggest you do some research into the Nvidia Tegra chips (which is I'm sure what this is using). the battery life is supposed to be about as good, if not better than you currently see in a smart phone. Nvidia has been very clever in designing the chips to take that into account, as you would expect for a company designing high powered chips for mobile devices.

agreed battery issues need to be addressed before any more functionality is added to these smartphones. who cares if you can play angry birds on your phone when the phone dies at 4pm and you needed it whilst out of the office.

being a dual core phone it will actually use LESS battery.
As for other power hungry components, I don't know

Someone needs to invent a new type of battery that can power the current generation of smartphones for weeks without the need for a recharge.

... Pocket nuclear power, anyone?
