But there are redeeming factors. Straightforward mission templates were arguably requisite, given the difficulty of deciphering the world through the eyes of a VT, and if you're sometimes expected to weather impossible odds, you were probably expecting that. This is, after all, a From Software game. Success is hard-earned and thus, the exhilaration when you do prevail is beyond anything you'll experience in a safer, slicker shooter.
The new Steel Battalion is going to divide people, in case you hadn't guessed. Some players will choke on the interfacial blunders, gag at the sporadically entertaining missions and walk away calling it the worst game ever. Others, however, will regard even the flaws as a thrown gauntlet. Kinect nay-sayers oft lament the shortage of challenging motion-sensitive titles, yet complain in the same breath that motion controls are too much bother. From Software's latest exposes the hypocrisy of that standpoint in one, bone-shattering gesture.

Based on the previous mixture of yays and nays, I was expecting this to get a 6 or 5.

I do seem to be one of the positive ones, don't I?

I'd definitely advise trying the demo - http://www.oxm.co.uk/41864/steel-battal ... xbox-live/

Must admit, i thought the demo was brilliant!!
the atmosphere inside that small confined cabin was intense and scary, i loved all the controls and just how easy it was to use, im seriously looking forward for this release as we finally have a kinect game that does the unit justice.
this is going to be insanely hard and increasingly frustrating as the game progresses, but its going to be cool,
im just preying they finally make / release a new MECHWARIER game. until then this will suffice.

This is the most positive review I've seen for this, it's getting panned by a lot of reviewers (3/10 from IGN, Destructoid & Game Informer - 41 average on Metacritic). As a lover of both From Software and Kinect it pains me to say that I didn't rate the demo and have to agree with the primarily negative stance. I just hope it doesn't put other developers off trying hybrid games.

Both OXM reviews seem extremely odd as many sites are simply stating the game is basically broken. When you see nothing but poor reviews then the two OXM sites give a first party MS game a much better score it looks weird. Cheers.

It's not a first-party title, and no, we aren't paid to give Microsoft games good scores. A day will dawn when I don't have to appraise people of this.
The controls are broken in places, but there is a sweet spot, and if you experiment, you'll find it.

Tell me about it. It's been literally days since Steve Ballmer last sent me a fruit basket.

This has sold spectacularly badly - didn't even make the UK top 30.
