    Nivea Drops Rihanna as Spokesperson

In the advertising world, it's common knowledge that sex sells. So, basically, if you put Rihanna's ultra-sexy face on a brand, it will fly off the shelves in no time. Or so we thought.

Rihanna Works Out At 2 A.M.!

The singer, who appeared in a Nivea commercial last year-a sponsor of her world tour, "Loud"-has had her lotion rights revoked. According to cosmetic tycoon Stefan Heidenreich, the new head of Nivea's parent firm, Beiersdorf, she's simply too outrageous for the brand.

"The advert starring Rihanna was a no go. I do not understand how Nivea can be brought into association with Rihanna," Heidenreich said. "Nivea is a company which stands for trust, family and reliability."

The company has certainly done a 180 on their love for RiRi. Just last year she fronted the brand's 100 Years Skincare for Life campaign, and Nivea released a photograph of the then red-haired star posing seductively. We don't know about you, but if applying Nivea lotion gets us Rihanna-looking legs, we're in.

At the time, rep for the brand, Markus Pinger, said, "We are excited to have Rihanna supporting us in our celebration and building a new generation of fans. "Over the past 100 years, Nivea has been an iconic skin-care brand across the world. Rihanna is a music icon and her digital footprint will help us bring our anniversary celebration to consumers wherever they are."

    Rihanna To Pursue Fashion Line

And then Nivea threw a party for the singer to celebrate her birthday in Beverly Hills. It was decked out with ice sculptures and cupcakes with flags from Rihanna's native Barbados. Anyone else receiving mixed signals?

We're a little bummed for Rihanna-she's a badass who just experienced a major slap in the face for being herself. And since when does having sex appeal mean you're not "trustworthy" or "reliable"? Tell us your thoughts: Should Rihanna have been dropped by Nivea?

CORRECTION: I "feel" (not "fell") sympathy for these humans who become famous.

Love Rihanna... but let's get real.. How many of us are letting our young children watch her? Call me old fashion or whatever but my daughter will not be watching or listening to any of her songs. She's really not that great of a role model. However how many young children are wearing Nivea?? Probably not many.
Also it's Nivea's right to hire whoever they want as a spokesmodel.

I have known Nivea ads for a long time - Rihanna just does not fit. Her image is that of a gal guys hang out and have fun with but will not bring home to mother. She's 'good time' as opposed to the commitment/family image the company portrays.

Sometimes there's a price to pay for being a badazz..and based on the comments to this article, it certainly sounds as though Nivea made the right decision in kicking that particular badazz to the curb...

let's see...ummm...drinking, drug use, her in the press domestic violence issues, the fact that she is NOT taking care of herself as was shown by her grammy performance this year when she looked totally out of it. the girl has a lot of issues. she should keep her private life private if she wants to be a "brand" instead of a person. obviously when she was chosen to represent this skin care line it was done under the assumption that by her tour and conduct as an idol to many young girls that it would sell a whote lotta lotion...it didnt so bye bye riri!

I'll go with 'too ugly' or 'too stupid' for getting back with the person who beat her up

Denise said it all. If you want the public to take anti aging lotions seriously, don't use young girls/ladies to promote the product. The only wrinkles the young have is around their butt hole. Have a celebrity spokes person who struggles with wrinkles. Have them use the product and if it works-- walla! You have a winner! Anyways, are there really people today who actually believe these lotions works? If any of them truly did, the word would be out and no one would have a wrinkle.

Michelle, you are so very young and you have your entire life ahead of you. Take your time and make good choices. Its our choices that mold us and define who we are. I dont remember the line word for word but in the last hobbit movie, the Return of the King, the wizard in the movie said something that was so true. He told a hobbit that 'it doesnt matter long we live. What matters is what we do with the time that is given to us.' Excellent words said in a movie.

I'm only 15 and I have come to the realization that Gail's conclusion is correct. Trends may change, but the 'older folk' know what they are talking about.

There's nothing wrong with Pro-Rihanna remarks everyone is entitled to their own opinion Daiquari..dont you think your taking this a little to far? Do you personally hang out with Rihanna did she do something to upset you..honestly I think you should behave yourself your daughters wouldnt want to pick up on your "bad behavior" lol just a thought..since your preaching to others the difference between good and bad behavior.

To be A spokesperson first you need to know how to talk,to talk you need to be educated,to be educated you need to go to school........Rihanna don't have none of the above WHO HIRE THAT WOMAN IN THE FIRTS PLACE ?

        lol @ Pet

To Au - You mean who hired (not hire) that woman in the first place? First you need to read and write next, you need to spell and then learn how to comprehend.
I trust you miss a lot of school days?

This woman needs a lot of psychological help! I wish she would get it!!

You know squat about this woman and feel the need to judge her because of what stuff you see on television. Get real.

I think Nivea made the right decision. Rihanna has a tacky, low-rent look about her. She'd never entice me to buy any product.
    • Ed  •  18 hours ago
First of all, Rihanna does not have an "ultra-sexy face." She is actually quite homely. It is just that she spends so much time flashing her tatas that no one ever looks at her face.

Secondly, Kudos to Nivea for dumping this thing. The only question I have is: Nivea, did you not know this is what you were getting when you signed this no-talent, attention craving, pig of a woman?

C'mon Nivea. You knew she was a bad girl last year when you signed her up. When the sales petered below expectations, you cut her loose. I just feel sorry for people who think she is the best entertainer ever!

I used to think she was pretty. Now, she is and has been a hot mess.....

Nivea is for the over 55 set. Why did they choose RiRi in the first place and why did she accept?

I'm bewildered how this brand ever thought Rihanna would be a good symbol of their brand. It's almost like a bunch of old people asked their grandkids who would be a good spoke person. If you knew her at all you would know she never even tried to stand for "trust, family and reliability". Were these people sleeping? From what I know she has never claimed to be any of those things and have never made the public believe she was looking for more than good sex, money and a great time.
