    • OK, the new Smart Car Fortwo commercial is one serious head-scratcher. The advertisement features six people with majorly extreme, over-the-top plastic surgery -- we're talking frozen foreheads, balloon-like lips, sunken in cheekbones, and colossal breasts. And then at the end of the ad, an image of the new Smart Car appears with text reading, "There is an exciting new facelift in town. The new look of the smart Fortwo." Huh? What?

I was definitely taken aback by the facelift images … they were pretty alarming. It doesn't seem like the company is mocking plastic surgery, because if they are, why would they make the direct comparison with their own product? But, the commercial is not exactly upbeat. It's slow moving, and the music is sad and eerie. And in one of the shots, a tear falls down a woman's face. It's difficult to tell she's crying because, well … she can't really move her face.

Spoiler alert: the hair story on page 62 of the September issue (on newsstands Aug 21, but live here on SELF.com) is awesome. Okay, I may have been the editor, but I think it answers questions women ask me all the time. Do you know how many times someone has saddled up to my desk to ask why her hair is suddenly super thin? Or texted me in a panic about a crazy amount of hair in her drain? Or told me she avoided getting a haircut because she was embarrassed by dandruff?

      Step 1

      Step 1

Tend to your nails first by stripping any old polish, filing, and moisturizing cuticles with oil. Apply base coat to help the paint job last longer and avoid dark shades staining the nail.

Apply two coats of a neutral base coat, avoiding the cuticle as you go. Miss Pop recommends waiting four hours before showering (or better yet, a full day) since hot water encourages chipping and can cause the polish to shrink.

After letting the neutral color fully dry, get started with glitter. Brush off as much polish as you can so there's very little on the brush and draw three strips. One should go all the way down to the cuticle, while the others are more graduated. After, make a U-shape with the brush across the tip from one side to the other. Finally, load the brush up wit

      1. START WITH A SERUM

"It has a higher concentration of wrinkle fighters than a lotion or cream," says dermatologist Mona Gohara, M.D., of Yale School of Medicine. "One with vitamin C, an antioxidant, will also help stimulate collagen production." Try Kiehl's Powerful Strength Line Reducing Concentrate ($58, kiehls.com) under sunscreen-fortified moisturizer in the A.M.

      2. CAMOUFLAGE LINES

Crow's feet and marionette lines are especially aging, says Dr. Gohara. For the biggest youth boost, target them with a temporary filler like Yes to Blueberries Deep Wrinkle Filler ($16, drugstores) with wild acacia. For best results, dab it on several times a day.

Retinoids are gold-standard wrinkle zappers. If you develop redness or flaking, mix a pea-size dab of the retinoid with an equal amount of anti-ager--free moisturizer. Or, for especially sensitive skin, apply moisturizer underneath. We like: Roc

We may be in the dog days of Summer, but Fall makeup is on the horizon. While that typically means darker colors and matte textures, Josie Maran's Argan Color Stick ($22), found as part of QVC's Pure & Simple 4-piece Argan Skincare Ritual ($66, originally $75) is the perfect product to take you into the cooler season ahead.

Dewy but not shiny, this creamy stick allows you to swipe on highly pigmented color with ease. You'll love how sheer and natural-looking it is as a blush, but that it can be layered to create more intense effects. It doesn't pool or clump, either. So you'll get that lit-from-within glow sans the greasiness. Besides, it smells like a dream, hydrates the complexion, and can even be dabbed onto the lips. How's that for a transition?

    • Source: Get Jessica Chastain's Totally Touchable Waves

Jessica Chastain's smile wasn't the only thing wowing the crowd at a screening for the film Lawless in New York City last night. The actress's vibrant red hair was styled in lightly tousled, sideswept curls, showing off her natural color and texture beautifully. "It was important for [the waves] to not look over done or too formal," said celebrity hairstylist Ted Gibson. "Loose, sexy, touchable waves are very modern and super young."

After prepping her hair with a cuticle-smoother, his brand's Build It Blow Drying Agent ($20), Gibson blow-dried Jessica's hair with a large round brush. He then created a deep side part to open her face, and went to work curling her entire head with a small curling iron. To finish the look, Gibson misted a holding hair spray over Jessica's strands, using his fingers to break up the waves and soften them.

    • Source: 5 Uses For Dry Shampoo

Dry shampoo may still be a mystery to some, but for stylists (and beauty editors) this product is a hair essential. Women battling oily hair, limp strands, and just plain low on time could find relief. Don't miss out on all this superstar product has to offer. Learn five ways to bring dry shampoo into your daily styling routine now!

      1. To make a blowout last . . . and last.
Stretching a style between appointments is the most common use for dry shampoo. Why? The powder in the formula absorbs oil from the scalp and hair. To stretch your hairstyle well into the week, apply product the night before day three. Using it before bed allows the formula to seep in as you sleep, and you'll be able to extend the life of the blowout.
      2. To hide roots.
Dry shampoo can be used to disguise roots between touch-ups. Blondes can try Batiste dry shampoo ($9), and for darker hair colors, there's Bumble and bumble's tinted hair powder ($35).
      3. To prevent gym rat hair.

    • Source: A Skin Care Guide For Generations X and Y

Just as skin care needs change by season, they differ depending on your age, as well. "While SPFs are a universal must have for all groups, there are definitely unique biological processes happening that require us to tailor our routines to a larger degree," explains Jasmina Aganovic, founder of age-specific skin care brand Stages of Beauty. That means that even though you may be dealing with the breakouts you had as a teenager, your thirtysomething self might also be thinking of ways to soften fine lines and smooth out uneven tones. So whether you were born Generation X or Y, discover the best skin care regimen for your current decade.

      For your 20s . . .
Prevention is crucial. "This is the time in our life where we get the most free radical damage - up to 80 percent," says Aganovic. This is often a result of irregular diets, too much beach time, and general lifestyle; the rub is that this type of damage typically doesn't even show u

    • Source: What We're Sweet On: A Hair Mask From Under the Sea

With heat styling and changes in weather, hair can take a beating, so it deserves a little TLC every now and then. A hair mask is an easy way to resuscitate your tresses once a week, but the Repêchage Hair Spa Seaweed Mask ($55) goes the extra mile. This mask, made from seaweed plants, restores hair's elasticity and strengthens damaged ends. It's almost like turning back the clock on your hair health and bringing it back to square one. The seaweed mask also helps seals up the cuticles, effectively eliminating frizz.

Repêchage's mask can be used one of two ways: as a short-term treatment you use in the shower, or one you keep in your hair overnight. And while the mask may seem a little pricey, you'll definitely get a lot of bang for your buck, as a little goes a long way. Grab this mask, slather it on, and take your hair deep-sea diving.

If you haven't tried beauty oils yet, get thee to your nearest cosmetics aisle. The benefits of oils are endless. Not only do they hydrate and add sheen to skin and hair, but they also create a natural protecting barrier. From your scalp to your heels, see the many reasons why you'll love beauty oils.

      For the body
Immediately after showering or bathing, apply a few drops of body oil to damp skin to lock in moisture. Reapply as needed throughout the day on dry skin. You can also use body oils to create slip during a massage, or as part of a moisturizing, relaxing bath soak.

      For the complexion

Remember that like attracts like. So when using cleansing oil on the face, apply it to dry skin so that it more easily wipes away the oils and waxes from your makeup. Massage thoroughly, and rinse away with water. To use oils as facial moisturizers, dab a drop or two onto damp skin, rubbing in gently. Then, say goodbye to fi
