Bond and Bardem in the latest Skyfall trailers

After accompanying the Queen to the Olympics via parachute and appearing in a short TV spot, James Bond is back for more this week with new full-length domestic and international trailers for Skyfall, and this time he has some company. Javier Bardem makes his first big splash as the villain Silva and continues to make interesting hair choices when he plays psychopaths. Ben Whishaw appears as Q, and fans get a little more from Ralph Fiennes and Judi Dench. See 007 in theaters on November 9th.

Brad Pitt kills them softly

Andrew Dominik’s third film finds him reunited with Brad Pitt, the star of The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford 68, in this update of George V. Higgins' 1974 novel Cogan’s Trade, about another type of assassin who’s investigating the robbery of a mafia-controlled poker game in a post-crash, pre-election 2008. The cast is outstanding—Ray Liotta, Richard Jenkins, James Gandolfini, Sam Shepard, Ben Mendelsohn, Scoot McMairy star along with Pitt—but the reviews out of Cannes were a bit mixed. While many critics liked the film, their main complaint was how Dominik constantly called attention to the economic and political subtext of the film. Taken 2: The retakening

Taken 50 was a surprise hit when it was released in 2009, so it was pretty much inevitable that Taken 2 would follow. The story picks up with Liam Neeson’s Bryan Mills in Istanbul where Maggie Grace and Famke Janssen arrive just as Rade Serbedzija decides to take revenge for the death of his son. From there bad-ass and kick-ass combine in the form of Liam Neeson to do whatever it takes to rescue his family. Olivier Megaton (Colombiana 45) takes over directing duties from Pierre Morel. The Paperboy delivers an official trailer

The most divisive film at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival now has a trailer. Lee Daniels' follow-up to Precious 79 is an adaptation of Pete Dexter’s novel about a journalist (Matthew McConaughey) who enlists the help of his younger brother (Zac Efron) to investigate the conviction of a man on death row (John Cusack). If that doesn’t sound interesting, Nicole Kidman plays white trash, sexy, crazy and pees on Zac Efron, so the film’s got that going for it. At Cannes, it was called everything from “a craptastic work of self-importance” and an “unmitigated disaster” to a “gripping, scary and queasily funny picture.” Daniels is currently directing The Butler, and the L.A. Times revealed this week that Daniels will work with Hugh Jackman on Orders to Kill, the story of attorney William Pepper’s investigation into the murder of Martin Luther King Jr. Until then, check out the Paperboy in theaters October 5th.

Paranormal Activity 4: This time, it's ... more of the same

Catfish 65 directors Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman return for their second Paranormal Activity film following the success of 2011’s Paranormal Activity 3 59. Plot details are currently limited, but it looks like the film picks up after Paranormal Activity 2 53 rather than the third film’s prequel storyline. The found-footage franchise begun by Oren Peli in 2007 with Paranormal Activity 68 had its biggest money-maker with the third film, so if number four does well, expect a fifth. The scares begin October 19th.

A first look at The Big Wedding

No, this isn’t a Nancy Meyers film, but The Big Wedding does have Diane Keaton, beautiful homes, and a low-stakes, let's just have fun, It’s Complicated vibe. Justin Zackham, writer of The Bucket List 42, directs this time, and he’s put together a great cast to support his work. Keaton and Robert De Niro play a long divorced couple who must appear to be married to please the conservative biological mother of their adopted son (Ben Barnes) who is visiting for his wedding to Amanda Seyfried. Katherine Heigl and Topher Grace play Keaton and De Niro’s biological children, and Susan Sarandon plays De Niro’s new wife. To top it all off, Robin Williams shows up as a Catholic priest. See it in theaters October 26th, if you dare.

Every studio loves a sequel

THR reported on some potential sequels this week. The most interesting news might be that Fox is strongly considering moving forward with a follow-up to Prometheus 65 with Michael Fassbender and Noomi Rapace. Damon Lindelof might not be available, so Ridley Scott and Fox are looking for potential writers. Fox already has The Wolverine lined up for next summer, then the sequel to the X-Men: First Class 65 in the summer of 2014; the latter film was revealed this week by producer Bryan Singer to be X-Men: Days of Future Past, an ambitious attempt to broaden the X-Men universe. In a N.Y. Times report about James Cameron’s new home in New Zealand, the director admitted that Avatar 2 another Fox film, wouldn’t be ready until 2015 at the earliest. Meanwhile, two directors are trying to stay on the sequels to their successful films. Marc Webb wants to direct the follow-up to The Amazing Spider-Man 66, but he has some contractual issues with Fox Searchlight that must be worked out, and despite being splashed all over the gossip pages, Rupert Sanders is still Universal’s pick to direct the sequel to Snow White and the Huntsman 57. Deadline reports that Steve Pink (Hot Tub Time Machine 63) will direct the sequel to Bad Santa 70, and last and possibly least, there’s word from Crave Online that Rush Hour 4 might happen.

A second trailer for The Words

The Words stars Bradley Cooper as a struggling writer who gains literary fame at a high price after he passes off another man’s work as his own. The film is co-written and directed by Brian Klugman and Lee Sternthal, and features a story within a story within a story structure starring Cooper and Zoe Saldana, Jeremy Irons, Dennis Quaid, and Olivia Wilde. Check out the latest trailer before seeing it in theaters September 7th.

A look at two new docs from top filmmakers

Two of the best documentarians working today, Steve James (The Interrupters 86, Hoop Dreams) and Alex Gibney (Taxi to the Dark Side 82, Client 9: The Rise and Fall of Elliot Spitzer 68) have new films coming this September. James’ Head Games looks at concussions in sports, and Gibney’s Mea Maxima Culpa: Silence in the House of God investigates the cover-up of pedophilia among Catholic priests (it premieres at TIFF). Check out trailers for both below.

The first trailer for Silent Hill: Revelation 3D

Adelaide Clemens, Sean Bean, and Radha Mitchell star in this sequel to the 2006 horror film Silent Hill 30 directed by Christophe Gans. Michael J. Bassett (Solomon Kane) directs this follow-up based on the popular game series. Those fans helped make the film a $100 million grosser worldwide, so hopefully they’re ready to return to the theaters on October 26th for this 3D take on horror survival.

Bachelorette gets naughtier

Last week’s trailer for Bachelorette starring Kirsten Dunst, Lizzy Caplan, Isla Fisher, and Rebel Wilson didn’t fully reveal the naughty nature of the movie. With this week’s red-band trailer, you get the idea... quickly. Also starring Adam Scott, James Marsden, and Kyle Bornheimer, this debut film from writer/director Leslye Headland open in theaters on September 7th and VOD next Friday.

See you on the Homefront

Here’s an odd mix. Jason Statham and James Franco will star in a film written by Sylvester Stallone. Variety tells us that Gary Fleder (Kiss the Girls 46, Runaway Jury 61) will direct Statham as an ex-DEA agent who moves to a quiet town with his family only to find violence, drugs, and “an evil meth magnate named Gator” played by Franco.  Sold! The film begins production in New Orleans at the end of September. How many people are looking forward to Statham kicking Franco’s ass? Be honest.

• It’s official: Peter Jackson’s adaptation of The Hobbit is now three (rather than merely two) films. Coming Soon has the press release.
• After hitting festivals in Venice and Toronto, Paul Thomas Anderson’s The Master will come to theaters on September 14th, about a month earlier than originally planned.
• According to Deadline, Emma Stone will star in Cameron Crowe’s next film. Variety adds that it’s an update of an old Crowe script called Deep Tiki, and The Playlist has a few story details.
