There are video games that receive a tremendous amount of hype. These are the supposedly blockbuster titles that will deliver at all costs, that will make you proud of your $60 investment and that will become memorable interactive experiences. Such are the promises of all that hype, which can build for years. And while many big projects really do become groundbreaking titles (God of War III and this year's Halo: Reach come readily to mind), some simply fall flat. It’s difficult to watch such projects trip and stumble; in such a competitive environment, a disappointing effort can result in layoffs and even studio closures.

Unfortunately, we’ve seen several video games this generation that simply weren’t up to snuff, especially in comparison to expectations.
