Witcher 3 may add multiplayer, CD Projekt vacancy reveals

"Dark Fantasy" project to sport online component

Did you ever ponder the Witcher 2's vast, grimy bounty of sword runes, chesticles and potion brewing menus and think "you know, what this really needs is a multiplayer component"? No, I can't say I did either, but The Witcher 3 may dip a toe nonetheless.

CD Projekt is now hiring for a multiplayer programmer on its "Dark Fantasy" project, popularly thought to be another instalment in the Bawdy Misadventures of Geralt of Rivia.

The successful applicant will "prepare our engine for challenges of upcoming online component of our future games" and will have "experience developing RPG games", "experience with physics in a multiplayer environment" and "experience creating gameplay systems in a multiplayer environment".

A CV which spans Xbox 360, PS3 and PC is a plus, further underlining CD Projekt's insistence that it will focus on multiplatform games from here on out.

How on earth would you make The Witcher a multiplayer title? Is this another case of needless crowbarring?

  1. I think they need to concentrate on getting their games right first time before attempting something as ambitious as a multiplayer RPG. That reminds me, I must play the Witcher 1 & 2, I've had them hanging around since TW2 came out for 360.

  2. I can't see what value multiplayer would add to The Witcher (Dead Space 2, anyone?). I'd rather they concentrated on getting the story quest right. Witcher 2 was a good game but it was marred by some pretty serious flaws in terms of direction and pacing.

  3. Evidence that maybe even Bioware wanted co-op with no pressure from EA? Ah even I don't believe that! Very odd though, wasn't much of a fan of the witchers combat, much preferred the vastly superior Dragons Dogma - that could benefit from co-op/multiplayer. Though I found most aspects of the witcher pretty boring so can't comment on whether co-op/multiplayer would benefit it, sounds like the arena thing with a buddy most likely.

  4. There are a lot of things they can do to make Witcher better, multiplayer isn't on the list.

  5. Can't see MP is needed or how they would do it.I would say concentrate on the SP and iron out some of the faults of the second one.Given it was their first game on consoles though there is hope.

  6. Making the game longer rather than streching it out by having to play through it multiple times for the different endings would be far more preferable than the industry rip off that is multiplayer.
Not everyone wants to play online.
Good game though not as good as Skyrim and Dragons Dogma.
