Konami has released the first Pro Evolution Soccer 2013 demo on Xbox Live Marketplace - a 1.19 GB file that's exclusive to Gold subscribers. Download it here.
Eight fully licensed teams are included: Germany, England, Portugal, Italy, Santos FC, SC International, Fluminense and Flamengo.
"Experience the skill and technique demanded by PES 2013's total football," goes the blurb. "As teams fuelled by Pro-Active AI make runs and behave like real players, PES 2013's all-new Full Control elements give you total control over every move - with fully manual shooting meaning that no two goals will be the same. Player ID then adds further depth, as the best players move and behave just like their real-life counterparts."
PES 2013 team leader Jon Murphy threw down the gauntlet to rival FIFA in June, accusing EA of copying PES and duping fans. Time to test his mettle.

Downloaded this earlier with expectations at rock bottom after a few sub standard iterations in recent years. What a pleasant surprise to find a genuinely promising game, looks good, passing is crisp, maybe not a FIFA killer but a massive improvement on recent efforts.

I think 'genuinely promising' is a very good description based on the demo. There's still things not quite perfect, i kept passing to the wrong guy when two were in close proximity and the keepers still parry the ball too much and not far enough away, but they release the demo this early i believe to gauge feedback and make tweaks to stuff like that. The demo is versioned as #1 so i think it's likely there'll be another closer to the time.
Couldn't get the hang of the new fancy dribbling but i think that's because i'm shit rather than the game, the same no doubt for why i still felt pretty helpless/hapless in defence!

Still can't bring myself to play PES properly on the Xbox. It kind of "belongs" on a PS pad of some sort!
I've downloaded the demo on my PS3 but not had the chance to try it yet but I'm hopeful that this years will genuinely be a step closer to the awesomeness of PES from years gone by.....

Yup, still never got used to it myself! But then even on a PS pad i could never get used to using the analog sticks instead of the d-pad...! I'm sure it made the game better, but it made me much worse!
