The speeds of two existing high-speed Internet tiers have doubled

Comcast is adding some speed to its Internet services this week at no extra charge to its customers.

According to the cable and Internet provider, it's doubling the speeds of two of its Internet tiers: Xfinity Blast!, which will go from speeds of 25 Mbps to 50 Mbps, and Extreme 50, which will go from speeds of 50 Mbps to 105 Mbps.

"More customers are simultaneously connecting to the Internet through tablets, laptops and smartphones within their homes," said Cathy Avgiris, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Data and Communications Services at Comcast. "Whether it's to stream movies, upload photos, video chat with family and friends, or catch all of the Olympics action live on their tablets and connected devices, we want to ensure these customers are getting the speeds they need.

"We will continue to increase speeds as customer demands evolve. Comcast is committed to providing our customers with even more choices to get the best, fastest and most reliable experience possible."

Comcast also announced its latest Internet plan, Xfinity Platinum Internet. This new addition features download speeds of up to 305 Mbps and upload speeds of up to 65 Mbps as well as free Xfinity Signature Support.

The two existing tiers will double their speeds this week at no extra charge while Xfinity Platinum Internet will launch in certain Northeast markets like Boston, Hartford, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Harrisburg, Baltimore, Washington D.C., Richmond, New Jersey and Wilmington.

That is all Comcast landlines are pulling these days?

I get 34 down and 17.5 up on 4G Verizon Wireless while tethered (grandfathered unlimited data plan).

But, you guys probably have my 110ms ping beat by a long shot.

I don't have the Blast, am only supposed to be getting about 12 down and regularly see about 20-24 down even during peak hours.

But are they keeping their caps the same? If so then everyone that gets the speed increase is just going to hit their caps that much quicker, assuming they download at the same frequency that they do now.

They didn't raise it here in Denver.

What about the bandwith limit?

I was a Comcast customer for years and one thing that bothered me was that they have a 250gb bandwidth limit per month, at least in my area. So these higher speeds just means you could reach that limit much faster now.
I have a friend that went over his limit twice and Comcast just dropped him like a stone and he wasn't allowed to return as a customer for a year if I remember correctly.
250gb is a LOT of internet useage but with streaming video and multiple users in your household it seems easier to reach every day!
