Left 4 Dead 2 Cold Stream DLC delayed on Xbox 360, Valve trades bullets with upset fans

"The idea we haven't submitted the code is incorrect and illogical"

There was supposed to be a new Left 4 Dead 2 update and DLC pack - Cold Stream - on Xbox Live Marketplace yesterday, but it looks like a Jockey's got hold of them. Stupid Jockeys. Valve has now confirmed that the pack will arrive next week instead.

"Cold Stream for Xbox is going to be delayed just a few days as we fix a few last min pieces," the studio Tweeted last night. "We apologize for the inconvenience."

"The update is the part actually delayed but the maps etc can't load unless the update goes out," it added. The Cold Stream pack will cost 560 MP, whenever it arrives.

Fans were understandably a bit miffed with all this, accusing the developer of submitting the pack for certification late. Valve hit back with "the idea we haven't submitted the code is incorrect and illogical", going on "why would we not want to release it today? Timing it with the Games on Demand release would have been perfect."

The European Left 4 Dead 2 servers will be reactivated alongside the update's release. I'm looking forward to trying Cold Stream out - scroll down for PR materials. Are you?

Crash Course

Shooting your zombie pilot might seem like a good idea at the time, but in this campaign it only leads to fighting your way through a zombie filled warehouse section of town. Hold out in the truck yard until you can lower your escape truck and head to safety.

Death Toll

Make your way down a turnpike littered with abandoned cars to the nearby ghost town of Riverside-the site of a failed stand-off between the last of humanity and a limitless swarm of undead. Fight through the ruins of small town America to the waterfront nearby, where a rescue party can take you upriver to safety.

Dead Air

Guide your team of Survivors out of the downtown and onto the runway of Metro International Airport, where the only thing standing between you and the last plane out of the city is a murderous army of the undead.

Blood Harvest

Plunge through pitch-black forests, stumble blindly through fields of swaying corn, and take aim at the silhouettes leaping at you from the darkness-all towards finding a hold-out that might already have been abandoned to the horde.

Cold Stream

This community created campaign throws you deep in the back woods to face thousands of zombies as you battle your way to a helicopter rescue. Don't let the water or waves of zombies sweep you away to your death.

All Mutations, all the time

Want to play Gib Fest with some friends? Looking for a competitive game of confogl? Maybe you want to relax with the solitary pursuits of Lone Gunman or Last Man on Earth? With this update, all of the Mutations are now available to you all the time. Xbox players will need to own The Passing DLC for access to Mutations.

  1. Hmmmm 560 isn't bad, might have to invest in L4D2.Really enjoyed the first one and wished i hadn't traded it,if this is like owning 1 & 2 anyway cheaper way of doing it than buy both boxed.

  2. Left 4 Dead is awesome. We should write about it more, really.

Agree there might be a bit more of a discussion on it when this is released. There is already a thread in Gaming dis. and i know a few of the reg. have L4D2 and will probably get this.

Isn't this free on Steam though?? Was interested until they decided to charge xbox users for it on a game this old too....

If it has a few achievements, they can't give it away for free, it's MS policy. Plus Valve have to pay MS to get the DLC and patch up on XBL in the first place, which they don't need to do on Steam. I doubt Valve will be making a profit off this.

  6. Just like all the companies that aren't making a profit on Steam.Plus it will be free on steam,it is owned by Valve as is L4D2.Plus 560 isn't that bad cheaper than buying L4D1 and 2 and the dlc.

  7. I'm in, fantastic game, great value for money, enough said really ;-)

  8. Just a note, it's cheaper to buy the entire game of Left 4 Dead 2 on PC with the entire selection of dlcs; passing, sacrifice and cold stream... than it is to purchase just this dlc on xbox.

    That's fair.

It's 75% off until tomorrow on Steam to celebrate the release of Cold Stream. It's normally £15, which is still cheaper than buying it off GoD (£20) and then you still have to shell out 1680MSP (£14) for the three DLC packs.

Like has been said earlier, Valve can afford this because they own Steam. MS charge for hosting games and DLC and apparently charge to certify and deploy patches, too.

20k a pop as i understand it to post something with MS.That's why not much is free except updates. Also probably why smaller devs. never mantain their releases the same as the massive ones.

  11. Yes I know and I am very much for MS charging for patching etc, the whole reason this is delayed is because valve have problems with the patch and obviously don't want to get charged twice so the system works. But come on, more than £34 or less than £4, or even £15... it's stupid and a reason why someone should look over pricing strategies at MS. £20 GoD for something 3 years old and that you can buy for £10 everywhere? £20 for a GoD and all dlc? Yes please. Not any games include the passes or any dlc on GoD, it's a no brainer.

Don't get me wrong, I will be buying this dlc regardless.

 Didn't want to start a war Bezza, sorry.I agree things are too much on Live but there are probably reasons and it isn't just greedy devs.

From what i know from being on here nobody ever buys GOD,like you say i could get L4D2 tomorrow for a fiver secondhand and even charged for the dlc that isn't to bad.

I keep hearing rumblings about Steam anyway, even some devs. are voicing their opinion on it now.Marcus Persson behind Minecraft refuses to put Minecraft up on Steam.Despite the fact a lot of the updates are free, even for us.

You also have to factor in that a lot on the pc is cheap or free but you need about £800 of hardware to utulise most of that.As opposed to a £200 console, that stuff usually works ok on straight out the box.The min. spec. for L4D2 on the pc isn't something i would be able to get over even if i had my old desktop pc.

  13. While it would be nice free, I only paid £5 for Left for Dead 2, so it isn't actually that much.

This this the Left for Dead campaign DLC thing isn't it?

Yeah adds all the characters and Lvls from the first L4D.

There's no war, and I was replying to mbs, I stand by ms policies on charging for patching and this dlc is a bargain considering the content but in the grand scheme of things the prices on xbl are a bit ridiculous, specifically l4ds GoD price considering the dlc isn't included, I was using the price comparison to steam as a way of saying look at how bad prices are for GoD.

Sorry Bezza wrong end of the stick from me.

How are things gonna change on MS's pricing policies though unless people just don't buy things. As i know it a lot of people don't already.Plus is it down to MS that L4D2 is £20 or Valve.
