Borderlands 2 won't end with a whimper, the game's executive producer Brian Martel has insisted. It'll end with the biggest bang since bangs were invented (approximately 13.75 billion years ago, according to most theorists).
"You know, that's one of the funny things we've been talking about in the [Borderlands 2] intro, a funny line that Anthony [Burch] wrote," Marcel told Dealspwn, discussing what awaits at the far end of the first game's loot-dispensing conveyor belt. "It talks about how the first vault was filled with nothing but "tentacles and disappointment," which is pretty accurate.
"We've approached that problem, and what we've learned from that mistake was that when you're going to have a big boss like that, you can't let it be really easy to defeat. You have to make sure it's scalable based on the difficulty or where the player is, what their rank is, what weapons they have, that sort of thing.
"But you also have to reward the player with something that is a compelling reward. So we've done a much better job at having loot tables that are much more deterministic based on what's going on and where you're at in the game."
Of course, some might say that an easy-to-defeat monster is fine providing the story cuts the mustard. Marcell has an answer for this one too. "So the other thing we needed to do was have a conclusion to the story that feels proper and correct. I think we've really done a decent job with that - I think that by the time people get to the end of the game, they're going to be satisfied with a compelling experience and a decent ending."
Borderlands 2 is estimated to last between 40 and 60 hours. Preordered this? Any thoughts on what you're most looking forward to?

I can't wait to find CrAzY guns! Like that grenade launcher that fired like 64 grenades that each split into smaller grenades and destroyed EVERYTHING (mostly your framerate).

Hopefully it doesn't end with a big bang either.

Bordelands had an ending? Felt more like a wet fart to me, then again it didn't have much of a story.

GoD version is real of L4D2, £20 is having a laugh though - though I've seen americans saying the $30 price is a bargain for them ?!?!?!
Thanks Ed.
By the by, Secret Armoury had the ending I thought Borderlands would have, where you get loads of chests, little time and an explosion.

I'm normally all for story in games, but Borderlands managed to be a great game without really having one. If Borderlands 2 has more story with the same compelling shoot-n-loot gamplay and the option to kill Mad Moxxi, it'll be perfect!
I got the PC version of the first game in the Steam sale, so I'll have a quick blast in the next few weeks to remind myself of how great it was without souring Borderlands 2.
