PRACE Publishes First Scientific Annual Report

July 16 -- At the end of June 2012 PRACE, the Partnership for Advanced Computing in Europe, published its first Scientific Annual Report. The report is available for online reading and download on http://www.prace-ri.eu and printed editions can now also be ordered.

The first edition of the PRACE Scientific Annual Report covers a range of topics, including success stories from research done on PRACE Tier-0 high performance supercomputers, interviews with Prof. Anne Glover (Chief Scientific Advisor to Commission President Barroso) and Prof.Dr. Achim Bachem (Chairman of the Board of Directors of Jülich Research Centre, Germany), in-depth information about the PRACE Peer Review Process and Calls for Proposals, as well as features on HPC resources, the PRACE Advanced Training Centres (PATC) and the PRACE Awards winners.

NASA Builds Supercomputing Lab for Earth Scientists

This week, NASA announced it would soon be launching a new HPC and data facility that will give Earth scientists access to four decades of satellite imagery and other datasets. Known as the NASA Earth Exchange (NEX), the facility is being promoted as a "virtual laboratory" for researchers interested in applying supercomputing resources to studying areas like climate change, soil and vegetation patterns, and other environmental topics.
