As a multi-million and multi-year contract, the TLCC2 project was awarded to Appro as a joint procurement offered by the US Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) where Appro has begun delivering the Xtreme-X™ Supercomputer to 3 major national Laboratories including Sandia (SNL), Los Alamos (LANL) and Lawrence Livermore (LLNL). Appro has upped the ante by offering more GPUs than any other manufacturer with the Appro 1U Tetra GPU server that fits 2 AMD or Intel CPUs with 4 GPUs. The differences between the AMD and Intel versions depend on the characteristics of the workload. AMD procurements can be configured with more memory and have more cores while the Intel CPUs have fewer cores but greater memory bandwidth and also great bandwidth to the GPUs.

Novel Chip Technology to Power GRAPE-8 Supercomputer

With the fastest supercomputers on the planet sporting multi-megawatt appetites, green HPC has become all the rage. The IBM Blue Gene/Q machine is currently number one in energy-efficient flops, but a new FPGA-like technology brought to market by semiconductor startup eASIC is providing an even greener computing solution. Myricom, Emulex Take Aim at High Performance Networking

Myricom and Emulex are teaming up to bring a series of network offerings to market targeted for high performance applications. The partnership will kick off with Emulex reselling Myricom 10GbE products into selected application domains, but the end game is to go after the high-flying InfiniBand market with products based on Emulex's Ethernet ASICs and Myricom's high performance software.
