Putin signs protocol for Russia to join WTO

MOSCOW (AP) — Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed the protocol for the country to join the World Trade Organization, capping an accession process that took 18 years.

The signing announced Saturday by the Kremlin comes a week after parliament ratified the agreement.

Russia had been the largest economy outside the global trade organization.

Advocates say that joining the WTO will improve foreign investment and push Russian businesses.

But thousands of Russian businesses are wary that the low import duties and caps on subsidies that are a condition of joining the WTO will hurt them.

The west trading block... It would be best if Russia protocol to excercise caution and invest 40% in the WTO due to the West devalued inflated currency and invest 60% outside the WTO.

Mankind is remarkable is it not?? It takes a threat of disaster looming in the air for mutual reciprocation to evolve. With all Russias external contacts & asociations being exposed 2 strifes is a sound move to add some assurance of expandable options to broaden the markets for their products. Better this move than shutting off utility supplies to countrys that cannot afford to pay goudging prices. Now if only the Russians could come to the realization that implementing measures for "World Peace" would be even a greater investment move producing even greater gains from all the world markets??

WTO is not the European Union at least...considering their problems, EU would be a wrong organization to join now :)

The free world needs to start worrying about employing its own people. Just what we need is another 200 million slaves to take what remaining jobs exist in the Eurozone and the States. Big corporations cannot wait for the exploitation of another mass of people with little freedom or individual rights. The WTO is just an extention of big corporations and the cash manipulated governments that are behind the curtain.

I agree with the direction Putin is taking Russia but the WTO is not it. By WTO law if there is a mad-cow infection of beef you STILL have to keep importing that beef. There are many other rules in the WTO that will hurt Russia. Based on Russian polls I have seen most of us do not want to join the WTO OR the EU. I have to hope he has the best interests in mind and not playing corporate politics.

Why should America allow Russia into the WTO? they work against everything we do, and yet we still treat them as an ally and a free nation. They are not free, they are corrupt and dangerous and not a friend of America.

They don't own US at all, we the people just enjoy buying their cheaply made goods, we are too weak willed to put up any kind of resistence.

Hell, China owns us, so to speak. They produce, shoddily, all the junk sold at walmarts, kmarts, targets, you name, it's made in RED CHINA, a COMMUNIST country.....
      • Daniel 2 days 1 hr ago
China is not our friend but at least they opened their economy, China is just a giant US corporation. Russia is the problem, there is no other country on earth that poses any threat to the US except for Russia and their 20000 nukes.

#$%$ WTO? Russia behaves like a thug on the world stage and they get rewarded with membership?
      • superhero 2 days 0 hrs ago
I have nothing against the Russian people, they, like Americans, suffer from what the idiot politicians do. America has been more into other countries business than Russia has.
      • Patra 2 days 3 hrs ago
Bills the Thug. Go ahead Bill take over Syria, Libya, Egypt, Why stop at Iraq? Let's do Iran, Venezuela, ..... list goes on to include everybody with Oil.
      • Dan 2 days 3 hrs ago
How exactly does Russia act like a thug? When was the last time Russians have bombed somebody for oil or any other reason outside of that little skirmish in Georgia? Russians just like everyone else protect their interests and dont want another power messing up their backyard. If anything Russians have been the voice of reason world wide over the last 10 years. They were against the wars in Iraq and Libya and are the stopping NATO from bombing Syria at the moment.

F Putin. The Russians deserve nothing but a bad time.

Google everyone for S-400 sam. Russia has already prepared for a nuclear war. All major cities are protected by anti ballistic missiles batteries. In the US not a single major city is protected. In case of a nuclear war the whole population of the US will be wiped out, while about half of Russian population will survive. We need to deploy anti ballistic missiles batteries, but O'Bum is too dumb to understand it. Four more months to go. Please copy this message and spread in comments to every article.
