An Overview of Water Quantity and Quality

The River Basin Hydroinformatic Diagram (81Kb) provides information about how the various topics covered in the Core Module Water Quantity and Quality are connected to a real-world catchment. The diagram uses the Macromedia Flash plug-in. If you do not have this plug-in installed, you can download it for free from Macromedia's website.

If you do not want to install the plug-in, the text index provides links to a brief overview of each of the Units in the Module.

The Derwent Catchment

The Derwent Catchment is situated in the county of Derbyshire in mid-West England, and has been used as the example for this Module as it contains almost all of the features discussed, as demonstrated by the River Basin Hydroinformatic Diagram and the Derwent Description Model, a component of this Module's teaching materials. A brief tour of the catchment, adapted from the Derwent Description model, is provided here.

The catchment reaches from the Howden and Derwent Reservoirs in the North to Derby in the South, and from Buxton in the West to Alfreton and South Normanton in the East:
