T-Mobile UK offering a family plan on the BlackBerry Curve 9320

I was walking around town the other day and saw a great deal as I passed a T-Mobile store. Get two BlackBerry devices on a family plan. Of course, it piqued my interested so I had to go in and inquire about it.

The family deal is based on getting two BlackBerry Curve 9320 devices. Right now T-Mobile UK offers the Curve 9320 free on the £15.50 per month tariff where you get 100 mins, 500 texts, 250MB data, plus an Unlimited Booster. When you purchase two Curve 9320 devices you get the second one at a £5 discount so it becomes £10.50 per month for the same plan and you end up paying £26 a month for the two devices.

It certainly is great looking deal, especially if you're looking to get your first BlackBerry device (or two) or even for the teens on your family. The offer is not available online and may also only be available in some T-Mobile UK stores. So please inquire in-store about the plan.

Spare Battery

Having a spare battery when you're on the go can be a wonderful thing. Unlike some of those "other" devices, BlackBerry gives you the ability to swap out batteries as you need to. I always carry at least one spare when I'm out of the house, that way I know I'll always be juiced up should I need it. It makes for less stress and helps keep me productive all day long.

We have a great selection of batteries for all devices at ShopCrackBerry. You can even pick up an external charger so your spare is always at the ready! Keep reading and you can enter to win a spare battery for your device.

Emergency broadcast messages explained

Just what is the Commercial Mobile Alert System (CMAS) and Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA)? We'll break it down for you.

Emergency Alert Messages

Last week we noted that many users received an emergency alert on some devices for a storm that passed through the East coast. In the comments it was noted that a bevy of other users across North America had also received alerts in the last few weeks. The messages are part of the Commercial Mobile Alert System / Wireless Emergency Alert (or CMAS / WEA respectively). This system is setup through carriers to broadcast alerts to users for sever weather, Amber alerts and presidential alerts. Keep reading as we look at just where these alerts come from and what makes them tick.

Photo Editor

Following up on our video posted of the BlackBerry 10 photo editor running on the BlackBerry 10 Dev Alpha, a new set of slides also showing it off have now popped up. In them, you can see the issue RIM is facing with the form factor choices between the N-Series devices and the L-Series devices but aside from that, you get a good look at the app and how interactions will work with it.

Again, it's important to point out none of this should be considered finalized at this point in fact, the slides slightly differ from what we saw in the video but after all this time, it's nice to see the pieces of the BlackBerry 10 puzzle coming together as they should.

We all know RIM has been working on numerous different things for BlackBerry 10. Now, we're getting a hands on look at some of their plans for photo editing on the BlackBerry PlayBook and eventually, BlackBerry 10. BlackBerry devices have never really been known for their photo editing skills. Sure, there are a lot of apps out that are great but RIM truly needs a great built-in solution and as shown in the above video -- they seem all too aware of that.

As such, they're building a great solution for it, though keep in mind it could change from what it is currently. Filters, frames, transformations and photo enhancement features will all be built-in making the experience truly awesome, as it always should have been. Looking through the file personally, I can tell it has deep integration with Scalado and that's why it currently doesn't function as it should on the Dev Alpha. It needs the updated camera that RIM is running on higher versions of the Dev Alpha OS. However, there's no doubt in my mind that RIM has it up and running as it should internally.

Jump below to see some of the filtering options and let us know what you all think. Personally, the idea of having Instagram available for BlackBerry 10 is great but having Instagram like functions built-in is just as important to me -- you know, just in case Instagram doesn't have any desire to build a BlackBerry 10 app for whatever reason. Also, video editing is getting a makeover as well but that will have to wait for another day.

BlackBerry Phoenix HD concept

There is no shortage of speculation regarding the upcoming BlackBerry 10 devices. When is it coming out? What will the specs be? What will it look like?? Everyone has their guesses for each of these questions, and some of our readers go the extra mile and draw up some concept designs for the new devices. We've had quite a few DreamBerry designs sent in, and here are 3 new ones.

The first is the BlackBerry Phoenix HD, sent in by CrackBerry member Shad. This design looks similar to the current BlackBerry Dev Alpha device, with a few notable exceptions like the trackpad with the BlackBerry logo. I like the whole concept, with the name of the device being tied into the slogan "The rebirth begins with BlackBerry 10". Nicely done Shad!

The next two designs might not sit well with everyone, but keep in mind they're simply artist renderings having a bit of fun with some 'what if' questions.

NYTimes BlackBerry

The New York Times announced that they have discontinued their app for BlackBerry smartphones. In a move to push users to their more robust mobile site, they will no longer support the NYTimes app for BlackBerry, the DealBook BlackBerry Reader or the NYTimes app for Palm Pre.

As of July 23, 2012, The New York Times stopped supporting the NYTimes app for BlackBerry, the DealBook BlackBerry Reader or the NYTimes app for Palm Pre.

You can continue to enjoy NYTimes.com content on your device through our mobile Web site: mobile.nytimes.com.

I was never a huge fan of the NYTimes app originally, but I'm sure there are plenty of users who won't be too thrilled with the news.
