Taxi

If you live in or have visited London you will know that at certain peak times hailing down a black cab can be rather difficult. But now, if you have the new 'Get Taxi' application on your BlackBerry, finding a cab couldn't be easier.
Just open the app and order a taxi. You can even view the black cab on a map as it travels to you. The driver will locate you using the GPS co-ordinates that your BlackBerry has supplied in the app. Payments can be made either by cash, credit card or if you are a regular user why not set up a personal or business account.

Get Taxi is a bit like an airline. The taxi doesn't fly but you can collect taxi miles which can be used in exchange for discounts, free rides and special offers. With social networking integrated you can even tweet your ride or post to Facebook, although I'm not sure that is a huge selling point!

If you take a taxi even once in a blue moon this app sounds too good to be true. I shall be testing it out next week and will report my findings. In the meantime you can download the app for free from the link below.

BlackBerry PlayBook

Keeping in line with their security focused background, RIM has now announced that both the BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0 and BlackBerry Device Service have now gained FIPS 140-2 certification. The BlackBerry PlayBook having been the first FIPS certified tablet for deployment within U.S. federal government agencies and Australian government has maintained certification with each iteration of the OS and kernel and presumably, will continue to meet the gold standard IT and security organizations.

In addition to those items being certified, BlackBerry 7 devices are also FIPS 140-2 certified by the National Institute of Standards and technology (NIST) and the Communications Security Establishment Canada (CSEC). In simpler words, BlackBerry remains secure and goverments will continue to use the devices and services no matter how many useless drivel articles pop up stating otherwise.

Troubleshooting BlackBerry data issues

Having data issues on your BlackBerry? We take a look at some common issues and how to fix them.

BlackBerry SOS

One of the common problems BlackBerry users face is data issues. The issues can be caused by various things in either the RIM or carrier network, and they usually hinder your device in some way. Data issues ranges from not being able to send/receive email to no BBM to no signal. When these things occur it's really hard to pin down just what the cause is, but with a few steps you can troubleshoot some common data issues on your own and most times be back up and running on your own (or at least get a better idea of the issue). Keep reading and we'll check out some common issues and their fixes.

PC World discounts BlackBerry PlayBook again in the UK

We have already enjoyed the low pricing of the BlackBerry PlayBook in the U.K. since the end of last year when we saw the 16GB model go down to £169, 32GB at £199 and 64GB at £249. The prices have pretty much remained the same, give and take a few quid depending on where you got one.

It seems that PC World has took to pricing down the BlackBerry PlayBook again. While the 64GB model is still showing as £249 the 16GB and 32GB models are now £129 and £149 respectively. With the 32GB model looking like an absolute bargain. So, if you're looking to get your hands on one you can get yourself a bargain now at PC World.

With these discounts being made on the BlackBerry PlayBook it could be on par with the recent rumours of the PlayBook 4G coming as soon as July 31st in North America and perhaps here in the U.K. soon after. Your thoughts and comments welcome on that matter.
