ASUS Explains Why the Nexus 7 Doesn’t have a Rear Camera
It makes sense for smartphones to have great cameras. People have them practically every second of everyday, meaning those “I Wish I Had a Camera” moments are no longer an issue. Cameras in tablets? That’s different.
With the Nexus 7 finally hitting consumers hands, ASUS felt it was necessary to participate in a Q & A session to explain how it approached the device. One question — Why is there no rear camera? — was of particular interest.
According to ASUS, one wasn’t included mainly because of price. “Adding a lower quality rear facing camera would compromise on the overall user experience so the decision was made not to include a rear facing camera therefore keeping the price down and user experience extremely high,” ASUS said.
Basically, there’s no point in including a camera for the sake of having one.
ASUS also argued that “many users would not have a use” for a rear facing camera, and I tend to agree. For such a price, Nexus 7 owners need to realize it’s not such a horrible compromise.
How many of us consider a rear facing to be a must-have tablet feature?
