For those who don’t want a Bluetooth headset in their ear but still want or need to take calls in the car, the Jabra Drive speakerphone might be just the ticket.

As we have pointed out   before, Bluetooth hands free calling is required in many states – it is also the smartest way to use your Smartphone in the car. Headsets can be uncomfortable for some. More and more states are adopting laws that impose heavy fines for those who operate their phones while driving. While not getting caught and not having to pay a fine are certainly good motivators, the biggest one should be safety.  A distracted driver is a dangerous driver and a dangerous driver is someone we want to avoid – not someone we strive to become.

Every good smartphone nowadays deserves to have a good docking solution available. It shouldn't be too hard to create either. As a functional item, they're pretty basic, but also incredibly useful at work, and at home.

The Mobi Products Desktop Cradle, is a third party charging dock for the HTC One X. As such, the charging contacts on the back aren't utilised, instead opting for a microUSB based charging solution. If you're the type of person that is forever docking and un-docking your One X throughout the day, this may not be for you. If, however, you go to work, and sit your phone besides your PC all day, then this could be for you.

As far as docks go, this one is pretty minimal in styling. The USB charging cable is fixed to the rear of the dock, and aside from the microUSB charger there is a simple blue LED on the top that indicates the dock is powered. This sits behind the phone too, so it isn't constantly catching your eye.

The One X sits really nicely in it too. It has the slightest of angles to it, so the phone isn't quite bolt upright, but isn't at an un-natural viewing angle either. All that is visible of the dock is the black front portion, everything else is hidden behind the phone. It works really nicely combined with a full screen clock application on the nightstand at home too. It sits at just the right angle for those blurry-eyed mornings when you roll over and just need to see the time.

Construction is solid, although bear in mind that as the phone is sat on a microUSB charger, if you knock the phone it is going to move about. The microUSB itself though is solidly fixed to the base of the charger.

So what about the not so good points? Well, if your One X is in a case, theres a higher than likely chance you're going to need to take that case off before docking your phone. 

And thats about that. If you're in the market for a reasonably priced, basic charging dock for your HTC One X, then definitely take a look at the Mobi Products Desktop Cradle.

The HTC ONE X  is a beautifully designed phone. The polycarbonate body feels like it is tough – but I do worry about scratches and how it would weather a drop.

While it certainly seems well built and sturdy, I would not be very happy if  I dropped the HTC ONE X– either on the face of the device or on the back with the protruding camera.

A good case makes me feel better about the investment in the phone and it is good insurance against the unforeseen. However, these new HTC devices are pretty big and I don’t want to add to the size. The HTC One X is also incredibly thin and I wouldn’t want to compromise that feel either.

Looking for a case that will help your HTC One S take all sorts of abuse, and manages to not look like a big black box around your phone? The D3O Flex protective case may be what you're looking for. At first glance is appears to be a standard TPU case (our model here has a trendy blue and white pattern, but there are other colors available), with precision cut outs for ports and camera, and those fancy blocks of vinyl over the buttons that allow to work them while covered. But the 3DO goes a step further with the secret orange goo that provides an extra layer of impact protection. They say it has "intelligent" molecules that flow freely until they lock together on impact and absorb the force. It sounds like some complicated science they're trying to put in layman's terms, but we know for sure the stuff works. And we know it's there between the rest of the layers because there's a tell-tale orange stripe inside the case. Technology is neat!

For the time when you're not trying to break your One S, the case is a pretty nice looking affair that really does keep everything well protected. The cutouts are very precise and allow easy access to the USB port, and stay out of the way of the camera and flash so you won't see any shadows or odd objects in your pictures. The button blocks are a little hard to push, but that's the situation with pretty much all TPU cases, so I'm not going to fault this one.

A lot of phones go through our hands, and a lot of cases do as well. I'm pretty impressed with this one, and preliminary tests of tossing my One S around the room seem to agree that it offers nice impact protection. I do love the feel of the thin HTC One X in the hand. I also worry about how it would weather an unforeseen drop. 

Putting a case on your HTC One X is probably a worthwhile thing to do. A decent case costs way less than “insurance” on your new device and it can also make your phone stand out a bit from the crowd.
