An enhanced version of 1998 BioWare RPG Baldur's Gate is headed to iPad, developed by Edmonton studio Overhaul Games. Due on the App Store this summer, Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition runs on an unpgraded version of BioWare's Infinity Engine. 1Mass Effect 3 charity drive closed at Child's Play's request
Organisers of a petition urging BioWare to change the ending of Mass Effect 3 are to cease accepting donations for Child's Play at the charity's request. Writing on the Retake Mass Effect ChipIn page, the campaign's organiser - known only as Robb - says the charity drive has been set an end goal of $80,000; at the time of writing, $79,916.16 has been raised. This, he explains, comes after BioWare founder Dr Ray Muzyka said that fans' voices had been heard, and Child's Play expressed reservations about being seen as backing the movement, which has thousands of supporters on Facebook and Twitter. Mass Effect 3 is the new number one in the Nordic chart, which collates sales data from Finland, Sweden, Norway and Denmark. BioWare insists it is listening to complaints about Mass Effect 3's ending, but has asked fans to wait for more people to finish the game before the studio makes any comment. So dissatisfied are players with the trilogy's conclusion that a fan-organised campaign, dubbed Reclaim Mass Effect 3, has garnered support from thousands of users on Facebook, Twitter and the game's forums. BioWare was working on a multiplayer FPS based on the Mass Effect series, but cancelled it, instead using it as the basis for Mass Effect 3's co-op mode. Organisers of a petition pleading with BioWare to change the ending of Mass Effect 3 have raised over $30,000 for gaming charity Child's Play. The campaign, dubbed Retake Mass Effect 3, has almost 25,000 likes on Facebook and 3,000 followers on Twitter, with a poll on BioWare's forums attracting almost 10,000 votes. Users facing long queues in The Old Republic
Players of The Old Republic, which launched yesterday, are being forced to queue for hours at a time before getting to play BioWare's Star Wars MMOG. In a lengthy post on the game's official forums, senior online community manager Stephen Reid warns that the situation will continue "for the foreseeable future," and asks for users' patience. More >
3Command & Conquer Generals 2 announced
Electronic Arts has announced Command & Conquer Generals 2, promising to take the beloved strategy series "back to its roots". The game, announced at the Spike VGA event on Saturday night, runs on DICE's Frostbite 2 engine, is exclusive to PC and will be released in 2013. It's being developed by Victory Games, the strategy studio EA set up in February which is now part of the BioWare label and has been renamed BioWare Victory. More >
