Darksiders 2 detail blow-out: 25+ hours, over four times the size of Darksiders 1

Weapon-eating weapons, Hardcore mode, New Game+

We haven't written much about Vigil's Darksiders 2 lately - a retelling of 2010's Wrath of War which sees you playing the role of a mysteriously muscular Death, out to salvage his brother War's good name. Time to change that, with a little help from NeoGAF.

Lead designer Haydn Dalton was at large on the boards during this year's ComicCon in San Diego, carpeting the faithful with gristly fact-nuggets. Did you know that Darksiders 2's main campaign is around 25 hours long excluding sidequests, and that each of the game's four main areas is larger than the entirety of Darksiders 1? Because I didn't.

Despite its bulk, the game will fit on one Xbox 360 disc. Dalton detailed a new Nightmare mode akin to Diablo 3's Hardcore mode, where players must get by with a single life. There's also a New Game+ feature which boasts an exclusive tier of weapons with tasty attributes. You'll be able to trade items with other players in-game, via unknown means.

Most interesting, from my perspective, are the MAGs - possessed weapons which actually eat loot to level up. An elegant answer to the problem of inventory clutter, right?

Are you buying this? It's out in a month. I liked what I saw of Darksiders 2 last July.

  1. Loved the first so this is a day one buy for me. I recommend people give it a go if they haven't already.

  2. Sounds good,i have still to try the first one.Sounds like there is plenty to it.

  3. Bought the first one after it was described by the Inside Xbox guys as the best Zelda game not on Nintendo and loved every minute of it. The designs (by Todd MacFarlane) were great and unlike Kingdoms of Amular didn't end up looking cartoonish, the play was nice and smooth with a blend of combat, platforming and puzzle solving and I really enjoyed the story.

Maybe not a day one purchase, but definately a closest payday to release purchase.

  4. Loved the first, which I fired up on Saturday after suffering a bit of Skyrim fatigue, just to see if it's as good as I remembered. It was. Have Darksiders II on pre-order from Gamestation, so I'll have the Limited Edition plus a Gamestation-exclusive DLC.

  5. Day One for me - looks phenomenal and i love the first one
