GTA 5 details: Rockstar apologises for silence, shoots down fake gameplay videos

GTA studio promises "more information and some new assets soon"

Don't take GTA 5's absence from the public eye as an indication that the project is experiencing difficulties. Development is going swimmingly, Rockstar has announced, and you can expect more GTA 5 gameplay detail and assets in the not-too-distant future.

"We are very busy working on the game!" the studio wrote on Rockstar Newswire today, responding to Social Club member concerns. "Everything is going well, but the game is a huge project. We should have more information and some new assets for you soon.

"As we have said before, we have often had long gaps between asset releases on previous games and will continue to do so in the future," the post continues. "We are sorry if you find this frustrating, but please understand, we don't do this because we 'don't care about our fans' 'don't respect our fans' 'hate GTA fans etc' - precisely the opposite!"

"We do it because we want to make sure we only release 100% correct information, and because we want to keep plenty back for the actual game release so there are still lots of surprises when you play it. The only things we care about are that you enjoy the experience of actually playing the game and that we release accurate information.

"We just have not been in a position to show more of the game than the trailer and will not be for a while yet. We did, however, manage to sneak a quick screenshot out for you... it's not much, but we thought it was pretty fun."

Rockstar is slightly more ambiguous on the subject of possibly-bogus Grand Theft Auto 5 leaks, like this vehicle list and that mammoth GTA 5 release date and gameplay blow-out. The post warns against crediting any material not released by Rockstar itself, but refrains from outright denying anything in particular. There's an alleged "beta test" video at the bottom of this page. See what you think.

"Now that we've announced GTAV, all the way up until game launch (and probably beyond) there is going to be no shortage of non-stop hoaxes, faked footage and screens, rampant rumors and speculation," Rockstar observes.

"As a rule, we are not going to get into the game of confirming or denying each of these as they happen as there is simply too much of it. Half of them we don't even understand - for example, we have no idea what 'the build model' is, so have no idea if it is complete or not!

"Instead, we'll leave it to fans like yourselves to decide what's legit and what's phony. Please assume if you don't hear it here, it is probably mostly fakes and almost definitely not the complete truth.

"One thing we'll say definitively though is - there is absolutely no 'beta' test for the game. If you see ads or solicitations to join a beta program, beware as this could be a dodgy online phishing scam. Your best bet is to only trust information as official if you're seeing it announced here at the Rockstar Newswire."

  1. Yeeeeeeessssss !!! at last we were only on about the other day the lack of details on GTA V.Please be the end of this year, please, please, please.

I do agree with him not wanting to release 100% accurate info.,plus not giving too much away about the game, take note you other publishers. It is maddening waiting though, lol.

Edit: Having read it again i am slightly worried he says they haven't had anything new to show and won't have for some time yet.Might not be this year then after all.

  2. Been checking everyday this week randomly, the only day I don't this appears? It's like me n cunning all over again. Quick! While he's not looking BAM.

Nice to see untouched pics too for once. Looking quite nice, for this gen - I don't think it'll be next-gen based on these.

  3. R* will clean up if they release GTAV in November. All that's coming out then is dumbass shooters, so if there's only GTAV as an alternative... Of course, it depends whether it's finished by then.

  4. This will be my first GTA game so I hope it'll be good.

On a side note: Whoever is answering people's prayers on this site can we please have another Conker? You can make me a brew if you like too.

  5. Not looking likely though, they said no more news for a while... though Take-Two have set share estimates based on a gtav this fiscal year - so all the games releasing next feb-april are screwed lol.

Hey oxm where's your Pachter quotes? They being typed up? Here's mine 'GTAV much more likely for March 2013 release'. If he says that, please quote me rather than him, thanks!

Plasma - seriously never played San Andreas? That's a beast, IV is slower but the dlc is batshit crazy awesome.

  6. Yeah second that Plasma, while SA is showing its age given it was on original XBOX it is massive.Four is mint so much to do and all the add ons are mint.Biker in one ladies man in another.

  7. Should be a decent game but I can't see myself queuing up for it. If they really go to town on some original multiplayer modes then I might be tempted, too often it's just 'capture the flag' and all the same ones we usually end up with. Would be nice to see the chopper vs chopper mode return though.

Wasn't a fan of GTA4 (took itself way too seriously) but this is worth looking at if you've never played a GTA

Both GTA4 DLC on a stand alone disc available for under £20. Both were really fun, and offer about twenty to thirty hours play each.

Sod it, I may even buy it myself. Been ages since I played Ballad of Gay Tony.

  9. I remember taking a couple of days off work when the last gta came out. Amazingly though, I've never actually played lost and damned or gay tony. Maybe nows the time to go and get as we are fast approaching the time of year where new releases are banned!!

Both are very good but Gay tony in particular needs to be played. It was more like the previous GTA games in that it was a bit bonkers and didn't take itself too seriously unlike the main game

  11. 8 months of silence and they give us only 2 screenshots. Come on R*, surely your fans deserve a bit more. Stoked at possible Red Dead sequel though; it's one of my favourite games ever.

  12. Hey it's better than nothing man! I for one hope they take their time and release an old game for HD but they said they couldn't do that in the thing as well. Got them on steam for £10 though now, if only my laptop could run them!
