Teen Dies After 40-Hour Diablo III Session

A teenager in Taiwan collapsed and died Sunday morning after playing Diablo III for 40 consecutive hours without eating, according to the United Daily News.

The report says the teen, identified by his surname Chuang, booked a private room in a cafe on July 13 and was discovered in his room two days later resting on a table by an attendant. Chuang was awoken and stood up, but quickly collapsed.

He was pronounced dead at a local hospital soon after. The cause of death is being investigated by police. It's believed prolonged sitting created cardiovascular problems.

  • This is crazy i can't sit and play for more than three or four hours before having to get up and walk around or something.

  • About time this happened.

Edit: I knew that someone would die from playing diablo, it's just the kind of game Diablo is. I wouldn't call it a good thing that it finally happened, but it was expected. Also I find it hilarious how all of you are offended over some guy that you don't even know dying.

Edit 2: You guys must be really depressed if one person dying upsets you this much. People die all the time you just can't get upset about them, you just have to accept that people die and some of them will die for stupid reason.
  • In the span of 40 hours, I could beat D3 thrice. Not sure why anybody would want to play such a shallow game in such a long session... Kind of a lame way to die lol
  • stupid is as stupid does
  • He didn't think he had enough after 10 hours? Damn gotta take a break sooner or later.
  • Seriously, anyone who gets that addicted to gaming deserves it; (ya ya blast me for being insensitive) but it just shows the danger of how addiction to anything can be harmful. I do feel for the parents tho, who's honor is probably shattered by this, for a tragedy that didn't need to happen. (Seriously, in a cafe and didn't bother getting food and where were the owners? DO they not have bi-laws against over night stays, they should...)
  • Unfortunate. I wonder what killed him.
  • R.I.P.
  • lol. i would expect kids on this website who play mmo's for days to drop like flies.
  • *the prolonged sitting caused created cardiovascular problems
  • This is going to kick off a massive debate about gaming now because of a few irresponsible people out there who cannot grasp the concept of responsible gaming.
  • thats messed up
  • Its going to happen to all of us.......
  • Ok, if it starts being that news and others start saying games are bad, people will get in trouble. The kid wasn't smart. Video Games do not kill. So there is no way to state that video games are unhealthy or such.
  • Darwin strikes again
  • Well here comes Fox News.. Anyways. I hope the parents can get through the tragedy...
  • He should have had a V8.
  • This can happen with watching TV or Writing a Book so there should be no debate over games killing or unhealthy.

  • Why??? My condolences to the parents.
  • How people can play for this long is amazing to me. I can play for several hours without stopping but then either I get bored, hungry, or remember these kinds of stories so I get up, walk around, and take a break for a bit.
