At Peachpit, we are serious about the future of learning. We’re looking for an experienced, thoughtful, and driven product manager to join our Innovation Lab team and help us build new ways to teach and inspire Creative Professionals around the world.

 

The Senior Digital Product Manager position will be active in all phases of prototyping, testing, developing, implementing, and producing -- from gathering stakeholder/customer input and requirements through user-interface design and specification writing, to quality-assurance acceptance testing of products.  In addition, this position will offer assistance to the editorial groups responsible for content strategy, design, publishing, marketing, and sales.  

 

Currently located in Berkeley, we’re relocating to San Francisco in October 2012.

 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of 5 years of successful product management experience with content-based products (publishing, digital publishing, web publishing, video training, interactive assessment) is required.
  • Demonstrated product development and product management background of launching and growing a product line through the entire product life cycle --from initial requirements definition through successful release--is required.
  • Experience in product and project management principles, methods and terminology. Proven track record in developing project plans for complex projects and delivering the required technology on schedule.
  • A demonstrated track record of managing the content and/or design strategy for an online publishing business is preferred.
  • Must be willing to work with remote teams and travel from time to time.
  • Bachelor’s degree required.

 

 

 

Skills/knowledge/abilities

  • Solid grounding in web and mobile software technologies with proven ability to work closely with development teams.
  • Superb project management and organizational skills with ability to gather business and functional requirements and communicate those requirements to software engineers. Agile SCRUM experience a plus.
  • Ability to juggle large product pipeline and multiple projects at the same time. Experience with designing integrated text and video products a plus.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a focus on teamwork and the ability to foster/maintain relationships internally and externally. Great written as well as oral communication skills.
  • Technical expertise in video and electronic publishing technologies is preferred.

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Working closely with other Digital Innovation Lab and editorial team members, the Senior Product Manager has the following primary responsibilities:

  1. Working closely with key business partners and customers, define, track and prioritize new product requests, in many cases working across multiple business partners and market segments.
  2. Define the business case for complex feature requirements that often involve other Pearson teams
  3. Research user needs and expectations for large, complex feature requirements
  4. With input from the appropriate internal functional areas and external partners, prepare Product Requirement Documents (PRDs) that define product features and functions that are requirements for the product.
  5. Write and oversee the writing of use cases, functional specifications, and test plans for specific feature requirements
  6. Perform acceptance and ad-hoc functional testing of new features
  7. Collaborate with staff or freelance designers and team members to develop prototypes as well as customer-facing products
  8. Conduct or coordinate usability testing, user testing, and focus groups
  9. Monitor and review the development of specific features including software engineering, QA, and documentation
  10. Coach and mentor project leads on process or specific requirements
