WALLY PFISTER, ASC, WINS AWARDS FOR INCEPTION

Cleverly directed, brilliantly lit, “Inception” hit theatres in the summer of 2010 and quickly became the summer’s biggest hit. Fans went back more than once to figure out the nuances of the film, written and directed by Christopher Nolan and shot by Wally Pfister, ASC. With “Inception” being their most ambitious work together yet, the film began collecting awards. Wally’s nominations included: an ASC Award nomination, a Cesar Award nomination, a Critics Choice Movie Awards, a BAFTA Award nomination and an Oscar nomination.

On Sunday, February 13, when Wally was actually in London for the BAFTA Awards, his name was being called at the American Society of Cinematographers Awards dinner for Best Cinematography for Theatrical Release (other nominees included: Danny Cohen, BSC, “The King’s Speech,” Jeff Cronenweth, ASC, “The Social Network,” Roger Deakins, ASC, BSC, “True Grit,” and Matthew Libatique, ASC, “Black Swan.”). And on Sunday, February 27, Wally walked away with the brass ring: the Academy Award for Best Cinematography for “Inception.”

With film being the reigning format of choice for Christopher and Wally, “Inception” was lensed with a variety of Panavision film cameras including Panaflex Millennium XL, PFX System 65 Studio, PanArri 435ESA and 235. Wally’s choice of lenses included Panavision Primos, High-Speed, C-Series, E-Series, G-Series and System 65 lenses.

Bravo, Wally! Your work has inspired many other cinematographers and directors. But most importantly, it has inspired your friends here at Panavision.
