PANAVISION FEDERAL SYSTEMS MOVES FORWARD WITH A NEW CONTRACT
June 8, 2011—Woodland Hills, Calif. — The Office of Naval Research (ONR) has selected Panavision Federal Systems to develop the Affordable Modular Panoramic Photonics Mast (AMPPM), which is expected to be the next generation photonics mast for Virginia class submarines. The objective of the program is to provide better reliability, easier maintenance and lower total cost of ownership while increasing the imaging performance. The mast is envisioned to incorporate multiple modules with day/night cameras, 360 degree situational awareness capability and others. A common mechanical/electrical interface will allow for mission configurable applications and the use of current and future RF antennae. Panavision Federal Systems is the prime contractor and the work will be performed in its Woodland Hills, CA facility.
The contract consists of three phases and could last up to five years and be worth twelve million dollars.
About the company:
Panavision Federal Systems is a division of Panavision Inc., which is the leading designer and manufacturer of film and digital cameras, including optics, for the entertainment industry.
In 2004, Panavision realized that its leading edge technologies would be an excellent fit for the emerging demands of government applications. The same high standards for image quality, functionality and reliability could be applied to meeting the needs of this important new market. Panavision Federal Systems’ first product was a very long range zoom lens used in the ISR market to provide wide area scanning plus the ability to zoom in as much as 15km to activities of interest.
Since then, Panavision Federal Systems has been successful in procuring contracts for the following: the Photonics Mast Replacement for Type 18 Periscopes, a mast-mounted collimator for dockside testing and adjusting of Type 18 Systems and the Digital Periscope 360—a full, 360 degree situational awareness camera system and diffusion display. In October, the Office of Naval Research awarded Panavision Federal Systems a multi-million dollar contract for the Affordable Modular Panoramic Mast (AMPM) as the prime contractor.
