PANAVISION ADDS INDUSTRY ELITE

Technology Advisors Joe Matza and Robert Solomon
Join Panavision’s Board of Directors

April 2, 2012, Woodland Hills, Calif. — Panavision is pleased to announce the addition of Joe Matza and Robert Solomon, two experienced business and technology leaders, to its board of directors.

“I am delighted to be joining the Panavision Board of Directors at such an exciting time in the evolution of motion picture technology.  Panavision has been an industry leader for nearly 60 years and their next generation suite of products to be released later this year will re-define ‘state-of-the-art,’” said Joe Matza.

Joe Matza has focused his career on the relationship between creativity and technology in creating successful businesses.  In 1972, Joe and his partners teamed with Oscar recipient Douglas Trumbull to create the Magicam System.  This real-time system provided camera movement while simultaneously photographing actors in a miniature set.  Magicam was sold to Paramount Pictures in 1974.  In 1984, Joe co-founded Composite Image Systems (CIS) specializing in visual effects for feature films, television and advertising.  He served as President and CEO until December 2001. In 1992, Joe and his colleagues founded EFILM.  Under his leadership, EFILM became the world’s foremost producer of digital intermediates.  Panavision purchased EFILM in 2001 and Deluxe Laboratories subsequently purchased EFILM from Panavision in 2004.  Joe served as EFILM’s President and CEO until June 2010.  Over the years, Joe and his teams have developed a number of innovations including digital intermediate systems, visual effects processes, on-set and remote technology and software to improve the organization and management of a production’s assets.  Joe continues to be involved in the entertainment community as a member of the Directors Guild of America and as an associate member of the American Society of Cinematographers.

Robert Solomon has over 20 years of media services industry experience, serving in multiple senior executive roles covering strategy, operations and finance in companies including Ascent Media and Encore Video.  He has extensive expertise with entertainment and advertising companies as they address the continuing paradigm shift to file-based content production, management and distribution.  As the owner of a consulting firm, Missions Possible, Solomon helps companies optimize and develop their digital entertainment supply chains.

“I am very excited to have the opportunity to work with Panavision as they launch their next generation camera system.  Panavision is uniquely positioned to deliver an integrated system designed from a filmmaker’s perspective.  Panavision’s ground-breaking camera system will establish new benchmarks and tremendous customer value when delivered with its unparalleled global support and service,” said Solomon.
