Crisis Core - Final Fantasy VII Special Disc

Crisis Core promo CD
  • Catalog number: SQPT-0002
  • Released 2007
  • 2 tracks
  • Total playing time: 5:39
  • Composed by Takeharu Ishimoto
Promo music CD for Crisis Core that was given out during the Square Enix Party 2007, which is basically a big show when SE shows off their various games. It comes in a clear slimline case with no liner notes, cover, or obi.

You got this CD by playing the Crisis Core demo at the SE Party. Here's a good blog that details how this CD could be gotten. (The blog is slightly wrong; there are actually 2 tracks on this disc.) It comes in a clear slimline case with no liner notes, cover, or obi. This CD is part of a 3-disc set, and you could also get a slipcase to hold all 3 CDs by collecting certain tickets at the show and turning them in at a particular booth.

Promo music CD for Dissidia that was given out with preorders for the game at Amazon.com. I do not know if other retailers gave out this CD. It comes in a cardboard sleeve with liner notes. The liner notes have the tracklist in English, a brief profile of composer Takeharu Ishimoto, and a message in English from Ishimoto. It does not originally have an obi.

Dissidia - Final Fantasy Special Disc

    Dissidia promo CD
  • Catalog number: SQPT-0003
  • Released 2007
  • 13 tracks
  • Total playing time: 4:07
  • Composed by Takeharu Ishimoto
Promo music CD for Dissidia that was given out during the Square Enix Party 2007, which is a big show when SE shows off their various games. It comes in a clear slimline case with no liner notes, cover, or obi. This CD is part of a 3-disc set.

You got this CD by collecting certain tickets at the show and turning them in at a specific booth. Here's a good blog that details how this CD could be gotten. (The blog is slightly incorrect about the CD's music; see below for details.) It comes in a clear slimline case with no liner notes, cover, or obi. This CD is part of a 3-disc set, and you also got a slipcase to hold all 3 CDs at the same time you received the Dissidia CD.

This is a strange CD in terms of its tracklisting. It has the first track, followed by 11 tracks that each consist of 4 seconds of silence, then comes a "hidden" 13th track of music. I can't identify what track 13 is; KujaFFman on the STC forums identified it as coming from the Square Enix mobile game Monotone, but that info hasn't been verified.

    1Overture to DISSIDIA
This is the song that plays during the Dissidia trailer that was shown at the SE Party.

    13(Unknown title)
No idea what the identity of this song is yet.

Fantastic Wave - Final Fantasy Sound Fair

    FF Sound Fair
  • Catalog number:
    NP-0001
  • Released 1994
  • 19 tracks
  • Total playing time: 71:40
This was a promotional CD with a mixture of songs from various Final Fantasy CDs. I don't know how people got it. Comes in slimline jewel case. The fold-out liner notes have the tracklist with the songs' original names, in mixed English and Japanese (kana); a brief FF series discography; information about Nobuo Uematsu's CD "Phantasmagoria"; information about "Final Fantasy 1987-1994"; and information about "F.F. Mix," both of which were released in 1994. And no, I have no idea why this CD has a crying baby on the cover.

    FFCC Sound Selection
  • Catalog number: FFCC-2009
  • 4 tracks
  • Total playing time: 10:21
Promo CD for FFCC: Ring of Fates that was given out in Japan with preorders for the game. Includes music from various FFCC games. The songs seem to be taken directly from their respective soundtracks (except for track 3, which has no officially released soundtrack). Comes in a glossy cardboard sleeve with liner notes. Does not come with an obi. The liner notes include the tracklist in Japanese (kana) and a message from composer Kumi Tanioka.

Track 3 comes from the FFCC game "My Life as a King," which was available in the U.S. on the Nintendo Wii as a WiiWare download. The Japanese title, "Chiisana Ousama to Yakusoku no Kuni," translates roughly to "The Little King and the Kingdom of Promise." So far there has been no officially released soundtrack of that game.

It does not originally have an obi. See the "Limited Selection" listing below for more information about the original CD.

All the songs on this CD can be found on the official soundtrack, EXCEPT for track 1, which I believe is unique to the various preorder bonus CDs. I don't seem to recognize it as part of any of the songs on the official soundtrack.

Promotional music CD for Crystal Bearers. I'm not clear on the exact details, but from what I can understand on Square Enix's site, I believe this was originally given out to Square Enix members who registered their game on SE's site, using the SE point card that came with the game. (The game was released in Japan on Nov. 12, 2009, and the deadline to register was Nov. 15, so there was a very small window of time to get this CD.) It was later given out in Australia (and possibly across Europe; I'm not sure) with preorders for the game from EB Games, while supplies lasted. Apparently the song list was determined by member votes on SE's site. I believe the songs are the same as those on the above "Excerpts From the Music Collections" CD.

All the songs on this CD can be found on the official soundtrack, EXCEPT for track 1, which I believe is unique to the various preorder bonus CDs. I don't seem to recognize it as part of any of the songs on the official soundtrack. The tracklist is in mixed English and Japanese (kana).

Contains music taken from the various FF8 CDs. This 5-inch CD came packaged as a bonus with the Japanese PC version of FF8. There are two versions of the FF8 PC whose only difference I know of is simply the art on the CDs: The first pressing had discs with art by Yoshitaka Amano; with subsequent pressings, the discs had plain purple drawings of the main characters. Music content for both music CDs is the same.

It's sketchy how people got this CD. I think it was generally included in preorders for the Japanese FF10 game at some Japanese retailers. But NCSX (which has a great description of the CD) and JpopHelp were also selling the CD alone. The CD comes in a white cardboard case that has a hole so you can see the CD, which then slides into a clear plastic slipcase that has a blue water design.

    Uematsu Radio Spectacle Edition

    Uematsu Radio Spectacle Edition

  • Catalog number: NOBIYO-10101
  • Released 2007 by Square Enix
  • 3 discs, 35 tracks total
  • Playing time for music CD: 66:09
  • Various arrangers
Comes in a foldout cardboard case with no separate liner notes or obi. The inside flaps have a message from Uematsu Radio producer Kensuke Matsushita in Japanese (kana), and the tracklist in mixed English and kana. I believe this set was available only through Nobuo Uematsu's fan club, but I'm not certain, nor do I know the exact conditions you needed to fufill in order to get it. There are 3 CDs total: two with all talking by Uematsu and various other personas, and a third, bonus disc with remixes of various Final Fantasy songs.

The bonus disc is apparently the winners of some kind of contest to arrange Final Fantasy songs, and I guess Uematsu picked the winners. Unfortunately, I don't know the details of the contest, nor can I read most of the arrangers' names. Please note that all the names I have in the below tracklist may NOT be correct. I've listed the names in the usual Japanese style of family name first, given name second. Here's a Japanese blog post with all the names in the original kanji. ("Nobiyo" is Uematsu's nickname; I don't know who actually coined it, but the first I heard of it was in the FF10 soundtrack liner notes.)

I do not know the history or the premise of Uematsu Radio, nor do I understand what they're saying on the CDs. (If you can read Japanese, you can check Square Enix's Uematsu Radio page for details.) The CDs do not seem to carry complete broadcasts, however, because each track fades out with the people still talking. All I know is that as they're talking, Final Fantasy music sometimes plays softly in the background, and I do hear them mention various Final Fantasy-related things.

Interesting note about the radio program's title: The word "radio" in "Uematsu Radio" uses rather unusual Japanese characters, as you can see in my scan of the front cover. "Radio" in katakana is "RAJIO," but instead of the usual katakana character for "ji," it uses the character for "chi" with a ten ten. Also, instead of the usual katakana for the vowel "o," it uses the katakana for the particle "wo." If you don't know Japanese, you don't need to worry, but if you're looking for this CD, keep that spelling in mind when you do searches for it.
