On June 4, 2008, four candidate cities were chosen for the 2016 Olympic shortlist: Chicago, Madrid, Rio de Janeiro, and Tokyo. Thus began the next level in courting the International Olympic Committee (IOC), which makes the final decision on October 2 in Copenhagen, Denmark. President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama made impassioned speeches on behalf of their home city, and the media attention to the Chicago campaign has been intense, but what the IOC ends up deciding is anybody's guess.

On the IOC’s initial evaluation, Chicago beat only Rio de Janeiro. However, you can knock out Madrid. The 2012 Summer Olympics are in London and the 2014 Winter Olympics are in Sochi, Russia. Three consecutive Olympic games in Europe won’t happen. As far as Tokyo, at least one IOC member said the city’s chances as small, since the voting will take place only one year after Beijing. Here are 10 more reasons why Chicago should get the 2016 Olympics.
